Sounds Like
Rock, country, soul.
Imagine a cross between the Rolling Stones, Dylan, Meatloaf, with a dash of Buffallo Springfield and a healthy dose of Willie Nelson...then listen to Steve Coffey's lyrics and music believe in the power of songs as gifts!
When Steve Coffey isn’t writing songs, he is watching Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders, America’s next top models, and the history channel. He attends church regularly.
A popular born performer, and former mouseketeer, he graduated from Notre Dame and moved to the south to immerse himself in his art.
Steve Coffey is breaking boundaries with his talented songwriting which strikes an unusual balance between sensitive story-portraits and raucous barroom fun.
On a typical afternoon you might find Coffey walking around the streets of Atlanta with a guitar singing his latest hit, well wishers waving to him, looking up to the sky with a hopeful smile.
Listen to Coffey’s music and discover what will become known as the new sound for alternative country music.
Band: STEVE COFFEY
Album: Horizon Through A Bottle
Label: Blue Magnet Entertainment
When you stroll down lower Broadway in Nashville you’re never really sure what you are for with the countless honky-tonks and bars. Some may have a rockin’ band playing 80’s rock covers fused with some country favorites, others may have more traditional branded country, while some may display singer/songwriter types. Steve Coffey probably best fits that latter category, but in all reality it is pretty hard to pinpoint a genre he fits into best. On his latest effort Horizon Through A Bottle, Coffey brings together a late 60’s brand of rocking folk music with a honky-tonk blend of country and wraps it around great story telling that paints solid imagery within’ the lyrics to come up with his own unique, alt. Country sound. He is going to have you raising your beer bottles to the rafters with songs like “Sugardaddy” and “Rattlesnake” and will get your boots clicking on the floor in a variety of ways as well. Songs like “Clermont Lounge” allow you to slowly dance across the saloon hall floors in a waltz like style while “Mean, Mean, Mean” will have you tackling a quick two-step. He also takes the time to show off a more bluesy influence on “Miracles,” which presents a bit of a different sound than the rest of the album, but still fits cohesively within’ it’s parameters. With a unique style, showcased by Coffey’s honestly delivered vocals albeit raw and ragged, this is a music lover’s album. It is left of the dial from the norm of the current mainstream but his ability to relocate you back to another era is amazing and will have you thinking that you stumbled upon lost records from the Bob Dylan folk/rock era of the late 60’s.
iTunes Review:
A Cornucopia of Listening Pleasure!
"The first thing that grabs you when you listen to "Faith in a Happy Ending" is the toe-tapping rhythm which plays beautifully off the strong melodies and rich vocals. This CD has an amazing, pristine sound which produces a unique and compelling energy that breaks boundaries.
Steve Coffey’s clever lyrics are carefully constructed with a deceptively minimalist style and when combined with the uplifting melodies and engaging progressive guitar riffs, you will find yourself stopping whatever it is you were doing just to listen closer.
You will find yourself humming these songs in your head long after you’ve heard it."
