"Rockin' Ron" Cunningham began entertaining friends and family at a young age with his unique guitar style and vocal abilities. With a voice suitable for a wide range of musical styles, Ron's bands have long been in demand by all types of venues from weddings, private parties, fairs, concerts, dances and nightclubs. Blue Destiny, one of Maine's most popular bands of the 60's, featured Ron on lead vocals and guitar. This is where Ron acquired his love for the "oldies", which, of course, weren't oldies at the time! Throughout the 60's and 70's, Ron performed with various local bands and musicians, but it wasn't until the mid 70's that a nightclub owner dubbed the group "The New Society Band" because of its revolving cast of musicians! The name has stayed the same since then, and Ron has continued to surround himself with some of the best backup musicians around. The New Society Band has always featured full three-part harmony vocals and a wide variety of song material. With surf, doo-wop and rockabilly at the heart of his repertoire, Ron also sprinkles in some classic country favorites as well as a few of the current Top 10 country dance tunes. Keeping up with the resurgence of swing dancing, the band is also popular for its swing medleys and sock-hop themes! The New Society Band currently consists of Ron Cunningham on lead guitar & vocals, Steve Sinclair on drums & tenor vocals, and Jeff Budge, formerly of Bluegrass Supply Company and Allison Ames & The Flames, on bass guitar and baritone vocals. If you are looking for true entertainment by one of the best vocal dance bands in New England, look for the marquee that reads "Rockin' Ron and The New Society Band - Appearing Tonight!"
Here's a testimonial from a recent visitor to the Eagle's Club in Brewer:
Hello,
..
My wife, I, and about 200 other people would like to extend our sincere thank you for the excellent performances at the Eagles Club in the past few weeks. Your band is a welcomed relaxation in this time of economic stress.
We cannot express enough how great it was to just sit, relax, listen, dance, and enjoy your music, as well as forgetting our problems just for a few hours.
Thank you very much for the great diversion from reality.
Sincerely,
Jay & Carol Rand
