Energy. Ecology. Society. Founded by musician Jonny Dubowsky, Rock 'n Renew is committed to the practical pursuit of environmental health and sustainability. As Jonny’s
band--Jonny Lives!--met with increasing success, they began to undertake
frequent tours of over 10,000 miles each. Concerned about fuel consumption,
Jonny researched bio-diesel as an alternative to gasoline and ultimately
transformed the group's tours into carbon-neutral events. From this initial
commitment, Rock 'n Renew grew into a multi-faceted organization with the
resources and connections to make real environmental change happen. Its
target areas of action--Energy, Ecology, and Society--represent a
three-pronged approach that urges conservation, promotes stewardship, and recognizes collection action as the best way to protect our future. With an unapologetic rock-culture sensibility and an ever-changing list of innovative events, Rock ‘n Renew puts environmental responsibility center-stage, with a unique artistic edge.
What Can You Do? In everyone of your daily actions, try and think about the impact it will have on the planet. Could you get a Cool Canteen and fill it with filtered tap water, instead of buying that plastic water bottle that came from Figi (that's a lot of gas, and a lot of miles for you to get a drink of water!) Are you really going to throw that soda can in the trash? Can't you find a recycling bin to put it in? If there isn't a recycling program in your town or city, find out WHY? Get your friends together and TAKE ACTION. For more tips on how you can live a more sustainable life, check out Jonny's blog on rocknrenew.com or email info@rocknrenew.com with your questions. Through rock shows, festivals, lectures, installations and other programs, Rock ‘n Renew has brought the message of sustainability to over 100,000 people since its inception in 2006, with events in New York, London, Stockholm, Madrid, Belgium, Barcelona, LA, Atlanta, and other cities. By the end of 2007, Rock ‘n Renew will have interacted with over half a million people around the world.
What People Have Been Saying About Rock N' Renew "If the people who are making the most money from fossil-fuel-involved products were able to make a transition, and lead the way into alternative fuel, this would be the greatest message any company could make about the future of our planet. I think it's great that you are doing this.“ -Debbie Harry (Blondie)
"Anything you can do to help the environment is a must; the littlest things count" -Jody Porter (Fountains Of Wayne)
"We can't just take this energy and throw it away after we're done with it, we can’t just live for the now, we need to be aware of the impact we are having on our future." -Art Alexakis (Everclear)
"It doesn't matter if you are a Democrat, a Republican, or a liberal or a conservative, it's not a political issue at all, it’s a human issue" -Kal Penn (Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle, Van Wilder)
"If I had been better educated on environmental issues, if we all were better educated, I don't think we'd be in the horrible state that we're in" -Chantal (Morningwood)
"I really appreciate the fact that an artist has more to do than just write songs and try to find an audience, he’s also willing to come up with an idea that could change the world and bring it to an audience, and I think that’s awesome” -Allen Kovac (President & Founder of 10th Street Entertainment/Eleven Seven Music)
Rock 'n Renew Foundation Ecology and Community Center The Rock ‘n Renew Foundation is building a community Ecology Center in Bayonne, N.J. We are utilizing the entire planning and building of the Ecology Center as a perfect (or as close to perfect as we can get) example of a sustainable building, and public learning garden. We are working with inner city students from several NYC and N.j schools to provide job training and mentoring that connects to each area of the project. Ultimately, this project will serve as a gateway for these students to get apprenticeships that lead into union jobs and long-term careers in engineering, construction, small business management, and other sustainable professions. As we are creating the plans, we are pairing students with architects to see this process. As we pour the foundation, students will take part in the construction, and learn about new sustainable careers each step of the way.
Another key function of The Rock ‘n Renew Ecology Center will be to showcase the importance of native plants, and ecological restoration. The Rock ‘n Renew Ecology Center will be a facility that uses only renewable energy, and through it's functioning in the community, this will provide access to a working model of a sustainable building. The ecological design of the garden will work to regenerate and restore the natural community as well.
Thanks for the add! You guys have an awesome page, and we here at UGWA definitely admire your cause.
UGWA is a new organization, out to help fight against global warming. We are teens who believe in taking action, and not waiting for others to make a difference. At the moment, we're trying to build our own facility, right here in Providence, RI. That being said, any and all support is greatly appreciated. We'd love it if you could add us to your Top Friends; you've already been added to ours. Thank you for considering our request; we hope to hear from you soon!
The more I learn about our environment and the negative effects that are caused by global warming..the more I worry what will happen in our future! Not only to our loved ones..but to our animals, mammals, infact all our living creatures are being affected just like (if not more) us humans .. At least we have a voice that can be heard.. These poor creatures are relying on us to be their voice! Sooo..I watched 'March of the Penguins' recently & it really touched the core of my heart...cos it made me realise...we are all one on this universe & every action us humans make has a direct link to the unheard voices! I'm just wishing & hoping...we can all make a difference...for all of us that have the privilige to live in this wonderful planet..& if we do..mabey..we'll help this amazing planet not only to survive but to continue to flourish in an even more beautiful way! xo
We, the humankind, must always keep in mind that, united we stand and prosper, but divided, we have been falling for many, many years. - - Let us learn how to unite and work together, let us learn how to transform the information offered on our website, into action, in order to solve humanity’s major problems, One Problem, at a time. - - Ranking number 1, on top of our list of major problems obviously is the Global Warming.
We must also keep in mind that silence solves nothing, it never has, and it never will. Our silence encourages more violence and corruption at all levels of society, all over the world, and helps to defeat and silence the peaceful voices of reason and common sense. - It is our civic duty and moral obligation, to get involved and never be silent, to solve our many problems, by simply casting the light of truth and exposing the source of the problem, followed by enlightening educational measures to solve the problem through a peaceful conflict resolution.
There are only 2 ways of spreading the light of truth and hope, either to be the source of light, truth and hope, The Projector, or be The Mirror, that spreads and reflects the light of truth and hope to others, which one are you? - - And next time you see the sweet little angels, our children, running around, stop and think for a minute, think about what kind of polluted Planet Earth we are leaving behind for them.
