Big thanks go out to Joe Hardwick, Sharla Pruitt and Scott Gipson...as well as numerous friends who have been amazing along the way. You guys rock my face off!
“They say the things I’m dreamin’ just can’t be done. They walk the line and say that I’m the foolish one. They got this, that and the other. Let me tell you one thing brother. They just don’t look like they’re havin’ any fun. Think I’ll just stay crazy. Think I’ll keep on runnin’ wild. As long as you’re here with me baby, if I go down…I’m gonna go down with a smile. And just stay crazy.”
It has been almost three years since that night at a little bar in Nashville. That is the first time a music fan was exposed to the sweet, country stylings of a duo named “Brother Trouble.”
The woman wasn’t even there to see that particular group that evening. However, the music started and she was hooked. That night Brother Trouble sang the sweet, determined and hopeful words in the song mentioned above called “Stay Crazy.” They also brought the crowd laughter with the hilarious, “The Ballad of Jimmy and the Sheriff” and made the woman consider all the fun possibilities of a little “Uh, Uh, Uh.”
Marva Collins said, “Success doesn’t come to you…you go to it.”
The South Carolina natives have been running toward success since the first gig they played at the Sea View Inn on Pawleys Island back in 1993. While what they have in common (the ability to entertain a crowd with vocal, musical and comedic talent) is imperative, their differences are what make Brother Trouble work as a team.
Older brother Jason Sutton is the dark haired, lead singer of the duo with the ability to randomly throw down freestyle rap…country style. He keeps the shows moving with comedic timing and a natural affinity for the stage.
Younger brother Mark Sutton is the fair haired, guitar playing extraordinaire with impeccable harmonizing capability. Mark adds spontaneity to each show and keeps older brother Jason on his toes. Mark is also at home in front of an audience.
Mark explained the positive aspect of working with brother Jason on a daily basis.
“There are a bunch of benefits, but one that comes to mind is you know somebody’s always got your back.”
The Blaster Records recording artists combine for an extremely entertaining stage show that earned them a spot opening for Kenny Chesney this past summer. That’s right. Brother Trouble won Chesney’s “Next Big Star” competition which was a nationwide search to find the best unsigned act in the country. The win earned them an opening slot in the last three shows of the “Poets and Pirates” Tour.
What makes the Sutton brothers great, is their ability to relate to the crowds they play for each night. After just one song, a fan feels like these guys are friends from back home. They are relatable because they are real. That honesty comes through in the music Brother Trouble writes and performs. Plus, they keep the crowd engaged between songs on pure personality. These guys have been known to have a full conversation with an audience member during a show or hand the microphone to someone who can sing and let them finish a cover tune. Audiences respond well.
Brother Trouble is part of a close knit family whose members can be found at a show on any given night. Plus, the Sutton brothers’ music “family” continues to grow. Fans from near and far have been exposed to country music they adore. Once you hear this duo, there is no going back.
Brother Trouble has built a strong catalogue of music in the past seven years inspired by all genres of music and they continue to add great song after song. There is depth in the humorous tunes and wit in the serious songs. Each song is layered for the listener’s enjoyment. None of them disappoint. These are songs that will stay with you long after the first time you hear them.
Ben Sweetland said, “Success is a journey. Not a destination.”
Although the talented brothers did not know from the beginning that music would be their future, they are embracing this exciting journey.
“We never really though this would be our future,” Mark said. “It’s always been something we’ve have fun doing. It’s pretty cool that we’ve been able to take this road as far as we have and we look forward to seeing where it leads us.”
Brother Trouble hopes to continue down the always surprising trail that led them to Nashville. What’s certain is these two make the journey fun. Look for the new album which will be released in 2010 and give Brother Trouble a listen. You won’t be sorry.
