ROCKST*R "Radio" (Screwed & Chopped Remix) by DJ Fatality (4x4 Crew)
BIO
With a style more real than rehearsed, more lyrical than pop, ROCKSTAR is an artist who only comes around once in a lifetime. Born in Toledo, Ohio to two aspiring college students, this self-produced artist began studying classical piano at the tender age of four. ROCKSTAR went on to study jazz and big band saxophone in his elementary and high school years, and the seeds of a musical genius were born. After graduation from high school, he attended Morehouse College in the vibrant Southern mecca of Atlanta, Georgia. There ROCKSTAR immersed himself in the happenings of the famous Atlanta University Center where he was introduced to diverse music and style from all regions.
After leaving Atlanta, ROCKSTAR cut his teeth in the hip hop industry as a college radio DJ at the University of Maryland and as a label and event promoter in Washington, DC metro area. "I was introduced to the East Coast underground scene in DC," says ROCKSTAR, "I used to host concerts, pass out promotional cds for big labels, spit freestyles at open-mic contests. Anything that related to hip hop I was involved in!"
True to the roots of most hip hop greats, ROCKSTAR has endured the difficulties of growing up as a black youth in modern America. "I experienced my version of struggle," he confesses, "My days running the streets made me who I am today. I've done some things in my life that I regret, but I don't let those things slow my forward progress. Despite that, I still got a college degree. So when I rap, I choose to focus on the future! Ill let others glorify the past." Rather than rehash the typical braggadocio popular in todays rap industry, ROCKSTAR paints vivid pictures from the world in which he lives. His music is a unique blend of the different cities that he has called home. Reminiscent of the late great rappers of the 80s and 90s, he blends the old-school feel of the local street corner with the relevant message of today.
Set to release the independent album "Instant Classic", through his partner-owned Dirty Drum Productions, this MC has quickly gained fans with his clever wordplay and head-knockin beats. Tracks such as the underground sensation, "Radio" showcase ROCKSTAR's creative talent with an earth-shaking drum pattern complete with sample free instrumentation. “Radio” is currently featured in television and radio commercials for the University of Arkansas as well as various local and national mix-tapes along with a video to be released in June 2007.
Currently ROCKSTAR is prepping the release of his “Instant Classic” mix-tape which will give thirsty fans a taste of what is to come for this exciting artist. This mix-tape will feature standout songs such as the infectious song "That's My Nature" (Produced by J-One), “She’s In Love” ft. Heavyweight (RIP) and Z-Bra which have delighted crowds at numerous shows. With the streets in anticipation of the next rap great, ROCKSTAR, the consummate artist/producer will deliver what the industry needs. The game will never be the same.
