Music
The transformation of Joseph Rojas, frontman and songwriter for Seventh Day Slumber, from former criminal and drug addict to redeemed husband and father cannot be overestimated. Rojas had a $400/day cocaine addiction, spending time in and out of jails, rehabs, and institutions most of his adolescent and early adult years. Battling a broken family of physical abuse and divorce, Rojas searched for acceptance, eventually finding himself in the company of those involved in crime and drugs. At the age of 21, after a drug overdose, Joseph cried out to God in the back of an ambulance. His miraculous conversion, which is both a fairy tale-like story and the foundation of the music and mission of this band, has now taken on an even greater, more powerful role in the lives of those in its wake. The newest single, “Missing Pages,” is a clear message to those who are battling cutting and other harmful addictions. Point blank, Rojas & co. want those in this position to know that God loves them unconditionally despite any and all maladies: “On the outside all we see is clay that hides the perfect lie, but know one really knows the pain inside. I understand how much it hurts to be the one who’s never seen, like missing pages in a magazine.... But there is one who sees it all. He’ll give you life you never dreamed. He can see the pain underneath your skin.” According to Rojas, “We want people to know that they don’t have to be depressed all of the time, that there is hope. I have been there, and we want them to know that we can relate to the pain and brokenness. We want to let the kid who feels alone, who cuts, or who is dealing with addiction... Straight-A students, or drop outs, or the star athlete who looks great on the outside, but who wants to commit suicide...We want them all to know there is a very real God who loves them.”

Rock the River is an event to raise money for Hannah House, a residential facility for pregnant and troubled teens and young women from ages 12 to 29. The house provides a structured program for each girl, including training in the practical aspects of living, counseling and spiritual help, as well as education and career guidance.
About me: The Fourth Annual Rock the River will be held September 13th at the Fort Smith River Front Park from Noon – 10pm. The evening concert will begin at 7p.m. with UTTERMOST, followed by Dove-Award nominated SEVENTH DAY SLUMBER. This year’s Battle of the Bands will allow ten local artists to compete for prizes that include performances at FIVE major concert venues, recording time, a professional photo shoot, hundreds of dollars, and so much more. In the past few years, Rock the River has been fortunate to have talented, national recording artists, such as SANCTUS REAL, THE WEDDING, and PAUL WRIGHT. Rock the River and the Battle of the Bands is looking to be even Bigger and Better for 2008 with great music, food, games, bounce arounds, and fun for the entire family.
