Tantalus have been around since 1993 in various forms.
The band started performing an eclectic mixture of Jazz, Blues,
Country, Folk & Proggy influenced Rock in the early days and,
as the line-up and sound changed, became popular on mainland
Europe as one of the leading British 'Neo Prog' bands of the late
90s. The band's sound and line-up continued to evolve with
Tantalus releasing their Lumen Et Caligo 1 & 2 CD project in
2003/4, developing a powerful and more unique sound and
performing to extensive audiences in the UK, Belgium,
Holland & France.

Founder member, vocalist and keyboard player Max Hunt joined
the Yes Tribute band Fragile in early 2003 and has toured
extensively with them for 3 years including the Nights of
Siberian Yes Tour in June 2006 featuring Yes guitarist
Steve Howe performing a set of classic Yes tracks
on-stage with Fragile.

Tantalus are now concentrating all their energies on helping
to raise awareness of social and environmental issues and are
currently helping raise money for the Cambodia Trust via
proceeds from a new live CD that was recorded at a special
event in June 2006 and is currently being prepared for release.

The name Tantalus has its origins in Greek mythology

'Tantalus' was the name of a mythical king of Sipylos

'Tantalus' was also the son of 'Zeus'

He was uniquely favoured among mortals since he was
invited to share the food of the gods. However, he abused
the relationship and was punished by being "tantalized" with
hunger and thirst in Tartarus: he was immersed up to his neck
in water, but when he bent to drink, it all drained away; grapes
hung on trees above him, but when he reached for it the winds
blew the branches beyond his reach................giving us the
word "tantalize"
