If good fortune is, in fact, being prepared when opportunity knocks, Paris DJon was prepared. A visionary, entrepreneur and music entertainment manager and consultant of numerous megastars as Jessica Simpson, Nick & Drew Lachey, 98 Degrees, C+C Music Factory, Montell Jordan, Shaggy, country music act the Marie Sisters, LL Cool J and many more for almost 20 years, DJon has now added to his entertainment experience with the launch of his newest venture, ROCKWORX Entertainment.
But Paris DJon has been dreaming big since he was very small. Growing up in a small city outside of San Francisco, he would often skip school, use his lunch money to jump on BART and dream up his future. Unlike most 13-year-olds, Paris -- whose mother fought to keep him and his sister clothed and fed using government assistance -- knew there was something bigger and better out there. He says that even as a junior high school kid, the minute he climbed the subway steps and found himself ensconced in a sea of buildings, people and energy, he was mesmerized. The second I would get to, what I considered the big city, I knew it was where I belonged, recalls DJon. I just didn't have a clue how I would do it!
Always passionate about music, he responded to the rap and hip hop movement that was bursting onto the Bay area scene in the late 1980's by borrowing the money for his first set of turntables. He began spinning his future. Soon requests poured in for 10 to 15 parties a night. He found himself renting expo halls for parties with 5,000 guests. The next vision emerged. Realizing he couldn't be in two (or ten) places at once, DJon launched his management career by hiring DJs to work for him.
Now successfully supporting his mother and sister, DJon yearned for something bigger. Enter the still unknown MC Hammer, DJon new next door neighbor. Hammer and I would sit around watching Monday Night Football with the guys bragging about how he was going to be the best rapper in the world and I was going to be the best manager, explained DJon. I had no idea how prophetic that would prove.
MC Hammer suddenly got a recording contract and was soon a mainstay on the airwaves. DJon knew it was time to take the next risk. He moved to Los Angeles, burned through his savings and lived out of his car. His survival instincts and keen eye for what was hot kicked in again. He began DJing at clubs and met a young graffiti artist he sensed had something new. He wasn't sure what it meant but signed him regardless. A week later he met Vanilla Ice and brokered a deal for his artist to design all of Vanilla Ices clothes. A few weeks later, Ice Ice Baby hit the radio and DJon personal residents now became New York City
By 1989, DJon had created his own personal management company. His first client he signed as a tour manager was C+C Music Factory, who happens to have recorded the biggest movie soundtrack ever on the charts, The Bodyguard. He then traveled the world several times over with a roster of clients including Montell Jordan and his hit "This is how we do it", which was the biggest record in the country solidifying DJons management credibility within the industry.
As his management company grew, so did his success. Discovering Nick & Drew Lachey and their group - 98 Degrees -- who sold millions of albums worldwide. Mr. DJon was not only the groups personal manager but served as the executive producer on such achievements as the groups self titled Gold album 98 Degrees, the groups Gold singles Invisible Man and The Hardest Thing and Platinum single Because of You, The 4x platinum album 98 Degrees & Rising, the groups platinum Christmas album, This Christmas as well as the groups platinum home video Heat it Up.
Introducing Nick to Jessica Simpson, the next step was the launch of her career with her first tour and album release. Mr. DJon also worked with such acts including multi platinum LL Cool J, Foxy Brown and co-managing Shaggy on his 10x platinum album and worldwide hits "It Wasn't Me" and Angel among others.
After taking some much needed time off to spend time with his family, Paris got back to work in 2006/07 and then landed the number 1 R&B album in the country with Donell Jones album Journey of a Gemini.
"In May of 2008, Mr. DJon decided it was the right time to jump back into the music game launching a new talent management company called ROCKWORX Entertainment. "We are currently working with some exciting new talent such as Non-P and a new boyband project called WOW which I think will blow people away in 2009" so get ready, says Paris. With new energy and numerous projects on the table, Mr. DJon is gearing up once again.
