Tip over the jar of Blackberry Jam and Other Fresh Ingredients and out comes the life of singer/songwriter Rocky Alvey. As unpretentious as a homemade biscuit, Alvey songs run the gamut from heartwrenching to hilarious. Nashville's legendary David Schnaufer once commented, “The genre is pure Rocky, these are REAL songs."
Alvey writes about subjects close to his heart, the hardscrabble, but tender lives of farmers and coalminers in such songs as Muddy Coal Mine and Farmer in My Soul. The title song, Blackberry Jam, is chock full of childhood memories of food and family, while Shawneetown is a rollercoaster ride of backwoods humor.
This compilation is full of characters and honest storytelling. Eat it up!
Hi Rocky unfortunately not because Brian won't get here until Oct 14 and I thought that event was later in October, we both really wanted to come down but it's just the way it's turned out. I emailed Erika about the possibility of him playing at the bluebird later in the month though...
