Rocky Marsiano is the instrumental side-project of the Portuguese old school producer/MC/DJ D-Mars. "The Pyramid Sessions" is its criticaly highly acclaimed debut album (Loop:Recordings). With a strong jazz influence, "The Pyramid Sessions" represents a fresh and unique view on urban music. With the release of the 2nd album (Outside the Pyramid), D-Mars further explores the musical sides of jazz fusion by adding elements of soul/funk and Brazilian music (his mother was raised in Rio).
The third album "Back To The Pyramid" was produced in Amsterdam where D-Mars is now living. You can catch him work the 1s and 2s at Cafe de Duivel every month. The album was released on vinyl only as a way to show his respect to that format and culture.
As a live performance, Rocky Marsiano is a quartet and uses improvisation as the main vehichle. No show is the same as the one before it... Rocky Marsiano has performed at most of venues all over Portugal, (p.e., Lux Frágil, Gulbenkian, Lisbon Casino) and was selected by Gilles Peterson as part of his night at Casa da Música.
Top Portuguese jazz musicians André Fernandes (guitar) and Rodrigo Amado (sax) and the turnatable wizard DJ Ride make sure the formula remains intact.
