| General | Travel, Writing, Stephen King, Rugby Union, Cricket, Reading | | Music | The Eagles, Elton John, Whitney Houston, certain rock operas ('Evita', 'War of the Worlds'), Civil War era music | | Movies | 'Gone With the Wind' is the greatest movie ever made! I am into quality movies that you havent seen before in that they are not formulaic ('Pulp Fiction', 'The Piano' etc); suspense horror movies (not slashers); quality thrillers and certain blockbusters ('Lord of the Rings' trilogy).
Generally three things are required to make a movie my fav - top Director, top Screenwriting and Top acting (amazing how hard all that is to achieve, isn't it?) | | Television | I don't watch much TV - sticking to movies, top international sport such as the All Blacks, and a few entertaining or quality series such as 'The West Wing', 'The Sopranos', 'Deadwood', the UK version of 'Life on Mars' and 'Lost'. | | Books | Most everything by Stephen King, in particular 'The Stand' and 'Bag of Bones'. Other books of interest are mostly non-fiction (history, the Civil War, rugby, cricket and so on), although as authors I also enjoy Clancy, James A Michener ('Hawaii' and 'The Fires of Spring' are personal favorites), Leon Uris; selected horror authors such as Tom Piccirilli, Jack Ketchum and Jonathan Maberry; quality political fiction (try Allen Drury out - dated but brilliant) and a number of fantastic novels - 'Gone With The Wind', 'A Distant Trumpet' (Paul Horgan), 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy', 'War and Peace', 'Rebecca' (Daphne Du Maurier), etc. |

About me:
I am a writer: I started as a freelance journalist in the 1970s with a national newspaper column and articles in magazines worldwide.
In 2006 I was nominated for a Bram Stoker Award for Superior Achievement in Non-Fiction by the Horror Writers Association (the HWA) - my proudest moment as a professional writer. I am an Active Member of the HWA and a member of the Australian Horror Writers Association. I was elected as a Trustee of the HWA for a two year term from 1 November 2008.
I also take on public speaking engagements and media events and have spoken about Stephen King's works at many conventions, including in Canberra and Melbourne (Australia), Bangor (Maine), Salt Lake City (Utah) and Estes Park (Colorado).
