ROC are Karen Sheridan (vocals, music), Fred Browning (vocals, music) Patrick Nicholson (music)
ROC have been delighting and confusing fans and critics since the mid-90s, from early singles "God Willing" and "Girl With A Crooked Eye" through three acclaimed albums. Veering from pure pop to pure noise, they've drawn plaudits from such diverse quarters as Radiohead, Orbital, ...and Dannii Minogue. ROC have been accused of perversity, but they simply make music without boundaries, using many sounds and influences as a backdrop to Fred Browning and Karen Sheridan's poignant, raging and ironic sentiments.
"ROC are genuinely like nothing else at all. And everything all at once" (NME)
"References from Velvet Underground to Phil Spector, DJ Shadow to Kraftwerk, kitsch rock to Europop, but ROC still sound like they're treading through virgin territory" (Uncut)
"Cut-ups, samples from televisions and answering machines, and a sense of American dream-turned-nightmare add to the alienation. Yet among the hurtling electro rhythms or simple, pared-down guitars, it remains precisely arranged and invitingly melodic" (Q)
"Startling, beautiful and addictive" (Esquire)
"Makes you feel relaxed and uncomfortable, reassured and disturbed all at the same time" (Gigwise.com)
"Very relaxed, kind of hypnotic and this has got the groove, hasn't it? And it's immediate too. Fantastic." (Dannii Minogue)
