Sounds Like
Rocwater glides gracefully across the many styles of their repetoire.....at any one moment, in any one of their songs, you may catch glimpses of Paul Simon, Johnny Cash, Gomez, The Beatles, Dave Mathews, The Kings Of Convenience, Tenacious D, Jack Johnson, Ryan Adams, Tom Waits, Jeff Buckley, The Beautiful Girls, Mason Jennings... but then again, Rocwater’s sound so is fresh and original that they really only sound like themselves, have a listen and make up your own mind.
"Following on from Missy Higgins and The Waifs, Rocwater - the next big ABC discovery!"

"Rocwater, the next Big Big act to explode on the Australian Music Scene. The songs on their ep Happy at Home are so dangerously addictive and catchy - you can’t stop singing them - they stick to the roof of your mouth like peanut butter."

"Rocwater’s ep has been on my mind since I first heard it.
A relaxed but confident debut; Duane Marnell’s appealing vocals, the uncluttered arrangememnts and the use of trumpet and harp add to it’s inventiveness.
Rocwater is one of my happy discoveries of 2006."

Everyone’s been guilty of living by pre-conceptions at some time in their life. Most of us do it daily. We convince ourselves of how our meal will taste before even lifting our fork. We’ve hated a movie before the opening credits have even finished rolling. Sometimes, however, the most rewarding experiences are those that are not previewed or labelled, instead allowing us to admire them with an untainted palate.
In much this way the band “Rocwater” is best experienced not labelled by genre or classification, allowed to escape the prying eyes of expectation. To sum them up by a single style or word is close to impossible.
…I guess you could best describe their sound as just that – ROCWATER.
Solidly Liquid. Flowing but Grounded. Naturally Powerful.
Gentle but Firm. Familiar.
Over the past half a decade, the boys have built an organic sound that uses melody, lyric and musicianship to ultimately deliver the essential story of the song, regardless of a pigeon-holed musical genre. Sure, their music hints at certain styles and influences – moments of Beatlesque melody, the humbleness of country ballads, acoustic rock, even splashes of soul with a reggae undertow. But no box, and no label.
Singer/Songwriter Duane Marnell grew up in Gosford NSW. Early years of musical experimenting found him fronting ska and punk-rock bands in the live music venues and pubs of the Central Coast & Sydney. But with age comes experience, and with it humility. In early 2004 while recording an EP with his punk band of the time, he began writing more acoustic guitar based songs – musical stories of the trials of his ‘Coast youth. Teaming up with the experience of Brent Murphy on lead guitar, and existing band members Dave Traina (drums) and Simon Melnyk (keyboard), Rocwater was formed around this new direction and approach to songwriting. The musical union was completed with the addition of Andy Felton on bass guitar, no stranger to the rock scene on the Coast over past years.
Fast forward almost 6 years and the innocent, laidback acoustic vibe of Rocwater has matured into a creature of it’s own. Their self-funded self-titled album (released in March 2008) made a refreshing first statement as the band found their feet and grew together. Since then, endless time spent in garages, jam rooms and 2 tired white vans on tour, has seen the band naturally evolve to have a unified ‘Rocwater’ sound which still belies conformity. From intimate dinner shows to open air festivals and beach-side pubs, Rocwater tunes have been left lapping in the minds of audiences as varied themselves as the seeds of the songs they hear. It is this unexpected familiarity which somehow manages to creep out through Rocwater’s originality which - to quote Brian Lizotte - “sticks to the roof of your mouth like peanut butter”.

This will be one of THE VERY LAST SHOWS to be staged in the famed Band Room of The Pub (173 Hargreaves Street Bendigo), as it will be closing it's doors on Oct 31st.
Sadly, the well-sized band room, which has seen some fantastic nights for live music in Bendigo, will be closed due to lack of punter support over recent times.
Show Gav and the rest of the gang at The Pub that the live music scene in Bendigo is alive and kicking... come along and check out a brilliant night of blues & roots music besides, as the mighty Lee Rosser makes a long-awaited return to Bendigo!
Praise for Lee's new album “Giving Yourself Away”...
"This debut solo record from the former Rambunctious frontman has the rare quality of working as well in the studio as it does live. Blessed with a three octave vocal range, and grooving right hand the album uses only voice, guitar, and drums (Nicky Bomba)."
Don't miss this opportunity to see some of the finest blues/roots/rock music Victoria has to offer!
Just wanted to let you and your friends know that i have just finished my EP with Shane Nicholson named 'Autumn' and the first track 'Love Like You' is up on myspace now. Would love you to have a listen.
