Our new album "Oxygen Thieves" is finally out. Available on fold out CD or vinyl on September Gurls Records.
We are ADRIAN SHAW and ROD GOODWAY. Adrian 'Ade' Shaw and 'Rustic' Rod Goodway first met in 1967 and the subsequent band was named J.P.SUNSHINE, the album of which was completed in 1968. After working together briefly again in 1970 on the somewhat misunderstood RUSTIC HINGE ( & THE PROVINCIAL SWIMMERS ) project in Dorset of which there currently exists only one official album release, "Replicas" on the Reckless label, puzzlingly featuring neither Shaw nor Goodway...... and a Video called "Lychee" (which does include them, on Bass and Vocals respectively), filmed by the BBC in 1970 and existing out there in cyberspace. ( Check it out on YouTube via our Blog :) They decamped together, along with their good ladies, to Bristol ... where they formed MAGIC MUSCLE.. There are several album releases by Magic Muscle on labels including 5 Hours Back, AcidTapes, One Big Guitar, Skyeclad, SPM, Woronzow, etc. After touring support for HAWKWIND in 1972 (whom Adrian Shaw joined in 1977, playing on the albums "Quark Strangeness & Charm" and "PXR5" ) the MM band had several re-unions over the years, the 1988 tour "One Hundred Miles Below" (including original guitarist Huw Gower) being recorded for posterity. Released in 1989 Adrian & Rod did a few gigs under the old name along with Nick Saloman (guitar) and Martin Crowley (drums), but this soon mutated into The MAGIC BEVIS MUSCLE FROND for gigs in Germany & London ... before both Rod & Adrian joined THE BEVIS FROND for an extensive European Tour and mini LP "Earsong" (Reckless label) , which featured the band playing in Faelled Parken, Copenhagen in 1990. Adrian Shaw continues to tour and record with The Bevis Frond and has released several solo albums as well as participating in the occasional live outings of Rod Goodway's ETHEREAL COUNTERBALANCE. This NEW album came about simply by two old friends getting together and making some music just to see what 'develops'. Adrian wrote and recorded all the music and Rod wrote and sang all the lyrics. Recorded at Ade's home studio this was begun on May the 1st. 2008. More details on all of the above-named bands (and some Free downloads) can be found on the Family Tree at the Aching Cellar Website (www.achingcellar@f2s.com)
We recently contributed the track "Half Price Drinks" (a Mick Farren song) along with our old amigo JOHN ( Only Ones) PERRY for a Pink Fairies tribute album. For our old chums (from Magic Muscle daze) the PF's of course ... but especially for the much-loved BOSS GOODMAN. Shine On Boss.
