Rod Hollimon
Producer / Director / Writer
Rod Hollimon is a motivational speaker, author, and television/film producer based in Atlanta, Ga. A native of Augusta, Ga., Hollimon is a 2000 graduate of Morehouse College in Atlanta. While still at Morehouse, he started his television career at Turner Broadcasting. Hollimon has worked for Turner Classic Movies as a staff script writer for their on-air host Robert Osborne, Turner South’s on-air promotions as well as TBS Public Affairs, where he helped produce the Emmy award winning public affairs shows interact atlanta and XCU (Xtreme Close Up). In June 2002, Hollimon won his first Emmy Award for television programming excellence in a public affairs program for P.O.W., an episode of interact atlanta. In 2006, Hollimon, along with HBO Def Poet and Writer Malik Salaam, Co-Directed and edited the Docu-Poem Lost in the Rubble, which won best Documentary at the Urban Media Makers Film Festival in Atlanta, GA in 2006.
Hollimon is the CEO of Atlanta Based Urban Thought Productions and Director/Executive producer of POETRY ON FIRE, The Spoken Word Poetry DVD series, which features the legendary Amiri Baraka and the Last Poets. He is the Video Director for Passion and Poetry(5&6), the highly acclaimed live poetry show hosted by Atlanta Radio Host Joyce Littel. He is also the founder/co-owner of the Atlanta based production company Nicorock Productions. Hollimon has directed two independent feature length films entitled 16Hours and Revenge.
Hollimon is also a motivational speaker, a profession through which he has the opportunity to share his triumph over childhood adversity with at-risk youth and others who experience life’s hardships. As a result of his childhood, Hollimon has a sincere passion for making a difference in the lives of others by sharing his story. In 1997, the GA Writers Association nominated Hollimon for the Author of the Year Award in the poetry category for his book Reflections of a World of Reality, a collection of poems written when Hollimon was a teenager. Hollimon was nominated for the same award in 2000 for The Coming of the Dawn: A Collection of Poetic Thoughts, which was released in 1999 upon the launch of his publishing company H.R. Publishing (now Urban Thought Books).
He has appeared in the interact atlanta black history special Crossroads, which aired on TBS Superstation in February 2002 & 2003. He has also been featured on the Atlanta public television show Perspectives in Poetry, the WRAS radio show the Poets Guild and the WRFG radio show Night Watch. Hollimon has also been featured in numerous publications including The Atlanta Journal-Constitution newspaper, Rolling Out, the Augusta Chronicle, The Maroon Tiger, The Augusta Today Magazine, and The Atlanta Good Life Magazine. The opening stanza of his poem, “I Can” best describes Hollimon’s attitude, determination and will to overcome. They say my task is impossible / There is far too much doubt in this land / Nothing to me is impossible / as long as I believe...I Can.
