Old School-HARDCORE PURE COUNTRY-period! Country music, like most all other forms of music, is a blend of many different influinces, so each persons veiw of how to define "PURITY" will mostly differ according to thier unique perspective and historical knowledge limitations. That being said, I beleive that most historians on the subject would agree with me in my appraisals of country's "hayday" era existing from roughly around 1920-1953. As I view pure country music, I discern that no authentic country has had major radio airplay since 1956.
After that I will deem all music that is claimed to be country as Pop, Bubble Gum, modern country, Southern Rock, or mostly northerners and foriegners sometimes making an attempt at having southern soul.lol
Hank Williams Sr, Jimmy Rodgers, Lefty Frizzell, Ernest Tubb, early Ray Price, Carter Family
Hank Williams Sr. / Hank Jr / Hank III, Steve Earle, Waylon Jennings, Toby Keith, Chris Knight, Gary Stewart, Jerry Reed, Mickey Gilley, Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, John Mellencamp, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash
Southern Gospel--(I'm the REAL son of a preacher man-not kidding) Jimmy Swaggart, J.D Sumner & the Stamps--Jordanaires, The Blackwood Brothers, Andre Crouch, Michelle Pillar, Pennecostal-traditional hyms done in the appalaician N.E. Tennessee style as I know them from groing up in the Church of God of the Mountain Assembly, Jellico Tn..
Bluegrass--My family from the appalaician mountains of northeast Tennessee where traditional Bluegrass/Country music took shape from its Celtic Scotts/Irish roots born from hard living, tribulation and poverty. Other than that, the mainstream folks you always hear like: Bill Monroe, Flatt & Scruggs, Ricky Scaggs, Allison Krause & Union Station
Southern ROCK!: Molly Hatchet, Skynyrd, CDB, Marshall Tucker, Allman Bros., Blackfoot, Black Crows, a little bit of Georgia Sattelites, ZZ Top-maybe not totally correct in being mentioned in the Southern rock category--
ELVIS: He has to be in his own catagory in my veiw. ELVIS, though he wasn't a songwriter, was indeed the KING. Of what catagory, I'm not entirely sure, because even though its claimed that he was the king of rock, that label has taken on many different forms before--during--and after that time ELVIS was with us. ELVIS was an awesome prodigy. He is my favorite singer of all generas, and its WAY beyond debate that he excelled at his brand of rock, country, blues, gospel and pop. As an entertainer/performer, he was, and still is the KING. As a singer, he was, and still is the KING. There are those who can make a strong argument that there have been, and are better folks in all these catagories, but those that argue these points forget the trump card that ELVIS always had-a GOD given, awesome, omnipotent CHARISMA!
80's big hair Rock: Van Halen, RATT, Cinderella, Poison, Huey Lewis & The News, Tesla, Jessee James & Jaqyl-I think thats how you spell it?, Steelheart, Chrissy Hynde & the Pretenders--
PINK FLOYD- they are in thier own catagory, of course.--
Canadian rock: "RUSH", 80 proof YOB, Triumph--
Heavy metal: AC/DC-Bonn Scott is my fav-but I also like Brian Johnson, Sabbath, Zack Wylde, Metallica, Megadeath, Motorhead, Pantera- too many to list
( Alice in chains to ZZ Top )-Look, I listen to EVERYTHING, & I can always find music in every catagory that speaks to me. I love it all!--
RAP & R&B: Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, T Paine, Akon, Lil Jon, Justin Timberlake, Nellie, Fergie, Rihanna
Freedom!! Independence!! Life!! Love!! & the relentless, never ending persuit of HAPPIENESS!! :)
Motorcycles, Fast Cars, Big Trucks, adrenaline-from flying airplanes, street racing, live performances
& of course HOT CHIX!!
****"The music buisiness is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where theives and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. It also has a negative side." Hunter S. Thompson****
A note of appriciation from Rodney"HotRod"Parker.
In the following paragraphs, you might find a little better understanding of this modern artist.
A lover of all kinds, formats, era's and types of music from classical to rap, he beleives that there really are only two kinds of music, "Good" and "Bad". With the obvious acknowledgement that tastes and interpretations will mostly always differ, Rodney beleives that there are absolutes that transcend opinion. Rodney's veiw is that "Good music" has "absolutely NO bounderies." "It is a sphere of limitless creativity and energy." " A power unto itself, it should not be subjugated by any standards or guidelines other than the raw emotion of the composer, wether that be emotionally, stylistically, lyrically, instrumentally, or otherwise." His veiw of "Bad music" is "music that is without soul, feeling and honesty, or music that is compressed into a box of foreign ideas or guidelines, to satisfy other purposes than the raw art of the composition."
The commercial component of the music buisiness has been important and rewarding to Rodney as well, with the radio airplay and rigorus, non stop live performance schedule. "I know what it is that I need to do here in this broad thing called the music buisiness. I do this for a living. It's pretty much all I do."***"I write and perform what it is that I'm living, and I try to make it easy for anyone to get hold of by being honest."***"Over the last couple years it has been extremely rewarding and vindicating to look out into the crowd, and see the people singing my songs along with me, word for word."***"The greatest reward for me has been in writing songs and performing from my core existance, doing what it is that I do, and discovering all these folks who want me to say it, because they feel it, as much as I do. I long for that kinship, that knowledge that I'm not alone, even though I've prepared my whole life to live with that independant spirit, that prospect of always standing alone, even at the horrible cost of being alone."***"No honest person can please everyone all the time. I know that not everybody likes HotRod Parker, and that's OK. I'm here for only those who do."***
Long Miles on the road driving the big rigs, the semi cab was his vocal booth. With the tar strips slapping syncopated time under his wheels, the mighty roar of his finely tuned 855 cubic inch diesel engine, and the tanks sloshing full of fuel he has over a million miles of practice.
Rodney has put together an amazing 1st Album titled "Hot Rod" with the guidance of Producer/Arranger Gary Earl and a cast of the most elite, world renown, Nashvile Musicians including:
**Richard Bennett**
**Will Ray**
**Glen Worf**
