MusicStevie Wonder, The late great Donny Hathaway, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon, The Beatles, Steely Dan, The Doobie Brothers, Janis Joplin, Gil Scott Heron, The Dramatics, The Spinners, The Stylistics, Stax Records recording artists (Sam & Dave, The Staple Singers, Isaac Hayes, etc)Motown 60's, 70's & early 80's. Old school R&B, Gospel, Classic Rock, Classic hip hop (Run D.M.C., Eric B. & Rakim, L.L. Cool J. Public Enemy, Boogie Down Productions, etc.) All who paved the way for hip hop to be a force in mainstream music today. I often think back on all the shows I used to go to at the Richmond Coliseum back in the days. The very first show I attended was Thursday June 18, 1987 (I was 15 years old). The headliners were L.L. Cool J. and Whodini. Within the years I have been to so many concerts and have met a number of stars.
MoviesGive me my classic black 70's joints: Uptown Saturday Night, Let's Do It Again, Cotton Comes to Harlem, Shaft, Superfly, The Mack, Foxy Brown, Cooley High, etc. That particualr era of the film industry has been referred to as the "blaxploitation era ", however there was a certain liberation in seeing black people on the big screen. Don't get me wrong, I watch all kinds of movies. However some of the new movies just don't generate the same feeling for me. some of my friends think I'm stuck in a time warp. If so, it's great place to be. lol
TelevisionThe Wire, I hate that it's now all over. After 5 seasons, it came to an end. Def Poetry Jam, CNN, anything that keeps me up to date with world events. A number of religious programs (Joyce Meyer, T.D. Jakes, Creflo Dollar, Joel Osteen, etc.) Fraiser, King of Queens, Friends, Seinfield, and oddly enough Family Guy. I tend to watch alot of old shows. I am a die hard fan of old classic Soul Train episodes. Nothing can match those classic soul performances from the likes of Al Green, The Jackson 5, Marvin Gaye, Joe Tex, Gladys Knight & The Pips, etc.
BooksToo many to name. I am inspired by so many works by various authors. Without sounding vain, my just released collection of poetry "Thoughts: a thousand times over . . ."(it's gonna be an instant classic, make sure to get your copy).
HeroesThere are a number of people that I admire for various reasons, however I would have to say that I genuinely look up to Jesus Christ. The strength that my mother possessed, her love, devotion, and the encouragement rendered enrichly inspired me and continues to keep me going on. May God Rest Her Soul. The warmth of my baby boy's smile and the beauty that lives within his eyes. Truly he's given me yet another wonderful reason to praise God. I also have a great deal of admiration for my lovely wife. I have to admire someone who can put up with me from day to day. lol

About me:I am on my space simply for the opportunity to network with like minded creative and aspiring individuals (and share personal endeavors with family & friends). I have recently established my own small publishing company (J.L.R Media & Publishing) and have released my first full printed poetry collection entitled "Thoughts: a thousand times over . . . " This debut collection is comprised of various poems on different subject matters. I thank God for the opportunity to bring forth this material to the masses. (This is just the beginning, there's more collections to follow.) I also perform spoken word poetry and participate in as well as coordinate poetry readings. Poetry allows me the outlet to freely express myself and to vent. I do hope that I can inspire others with the written word. Thank you for arriving at my place on my space. I keep it kind of simple and to the point. If anyone is interested in purchasing a book online, please visit: www.rodneyspoetry.com
The new infinitive poetry collection "Thoughts: a thousand times over . . ." by Rodney O'Neil Jones. This is a heart-felt collection that examines life, love, the soul, and the spirit. There is a subject topic for everyone. I invite you to reflect and connect with material that speaks to all. It is a must have collection
