Rodolfo Vanmarcke nace en Caracas el 20 de diciembre de 1976, y estudia en el IUTV donde se gradúa de Publicista en el 2003. Ha dedicado gran parte de su vida profesional a la fotografía, pasando por escuelas como Núcleo Fotosensible (2006) y el Taller de Fotografía Roberto Mata (2007). The artistic impulse of Rod Vanmarcke derives from his fascination for the idea of the juxtaposition of contraries. His aesthetic artwork results in a paradoxical encounter between the feminine body as a symbol of glamour and eroticism, and unnoticed elements (in the shape of textures) that cohabit in our everyday life; both captured through his photographic eye. A photograph of a body overcome by an act of sensuality manifests the thin line between pureness and impureness, between the natural and what can become pagan.
The sublimation of an idealized body is rescued, humanized, by means of the use of textures that repeat themselves within the world of the tangible objects: a crack on the wall, a painting stain on concrete, an oxidized object, cigarette ashes or an old and deteriorated frying pan. All of them symbolize, in one way or another, the wear-out of life, the inevitable pass of human time, the filth of routine, and mortality. In this manner, his work initiates a battle between the beautiful and the ugly, both in their own aesthetical sense, arousing an eternal and irresolute debate about the definition of one culprit: who makes the other dirty? Moreover, who beautifies whom?

El impulso artístico de Rodolfo Vanmarcke deviene de su fascinación ante la idea de la yuxtaposición de contrarios. Su producto estético resulta en un paradójico encuentro entre el cuerpo femenino como símbolo de glamour y erotismo, con elementos desapercibidos (a la manera de texturas) que cohabitan en nuestra cotidianidad; ambos capturados desde su ojo fotográfico. En su representación, la fotografía de un cuerpo invadido por un acto de sensualidad manifiesta la delgada línea entre lo puro y lo impuro, entre lo natural y lo que puede llegar a ser pagano.
La sublevación de un cuerpo idealizado es a su vez rescatado, humanizado, mediante el uso de texturas que se repiten en el mundo de las cosas tangibles: una rajadura en la pared, una mancha de pintura en el concreto, un objeto oxidado, cenizas de cigarrillo, ollas sucias. De alguna manera, todas simbolizan el desgaste de la vida, el transcurrir inevitable del tiempo humano, la mugre de la rutina y la mortalidad. De este modo, su obra inicia una batalla entre lo bello y lo feo, ambos en su propio sentido estético, despertando un eterno e irresoluto debate acerca de la definición de un culpable: ¿quién ensucia a quién? Artist Statement "Inverso-símil"

Inverso-símil arises with the intention of representing a modified reality by means of the use of the reflection. In this series, the puddles of water are recurrent reflections of the world-of-the-things; but these not only imitate the external reality that they reflect, but as well, they manage to establish a thin line between recognizing what reality is, and what we think is reality, but that actually isn’t. In this manner, the reflection constitutes the perfect generator of visual ambiguity, where the spectator finds himself curious, captivated and challenged to decipher the deception.
Inverso-símil is nothing more than the portrait of the quotidian world, but explored from what we use to leave unnoticed; and an image that appears to be a digital manipulation, it isn’t more than a photograph pre-conceived to exist upside down.

Inverso-símil surge con la intención de representar una realidad moldeada, a través del uso del reflejo. En esta serie, los charcos de agua resultan espejos recurrentes del mundo de las cosas; pero estos no sólo imitan la realidad externa que reflejan, sino a su vez, estos logran establecer una delgada línea entre reconocer lo que es la realidad, y lo que creemos que es realidad, pero que no lo es. De este modo, el reflejo constituye el perfecto generador de ambigüedad visual, donde el espectador se ve curioso, cautivado y retado a descifrar el engaño.
Inverso-símil no es más que el retrato del mundo cotidiano, sólo que explorado desde lo que solemos pasar desapercibido; y una imagen que aparenta ser una manipulación digital, no es más que una fotografía preconcebida para existir al revés.
