Now that the year is on the turn, with the days lengthening and the spring flowers putting on a show, this old man’s fancies turn to thoughts of festivals – in the main to Roger’s Rant. This will be the third year that the Ranters’ Folk Session has run a summer mini folk festival and we hope that this year we will outdo both the fund raising and the fun. We also hope that everyone will go away with some new song, tune, dance or musical technique. We are still finalizing the programme but it will include: - Folk Clubs at that are friendly sessions with people taking turns to do their party piece; Instrumental Sessions that are informal; Workshops that give participants the chance to increase their knowledge in certain areas of folk music & dance; Ceilidh/Barn Dance with English country dancing in dispersed with entertainment and hopefully, on Sunday, finishing with a choral concert in the church. Again, this year, the benefiting charities will be The Royal National Lifeboat Institute & The Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance THIS YEARS ROGER'S RANT WILL BE HELD ON THE WEEKEND OF 10th - 12 th JULY 2009

    Look forward to seeing are friends at Roger's Rant as you know it is a Celebration of traditional & contemporary folk music, song and dance. There will be some of the best of local amateur singers and musicians as well as some from further afield. There is also the opportunity for aspiring singers and musicians to have a go in a friendly atmosphere at the Sports Club. The Village Hall will be used for the dance workshops on Saturday & Sunday afternoons, with a Ceilidh (barn dance) on Saturday evening.
    The tickets for the Ceilidh are £6.00 from Roger Harrall (tel. no. 01258 837371). All other sessions are FREE entry but we do ask you to give generously into the bucket collections.
    The money raised goes to cover the cost of running the event and then is divided between the Royal National Lifeboat Institute and The Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance.

    Hi Roger, Thanks for the 'friends add.
    Programme looks good for the summer... some of our members don't live too far away and may well visit.
    In the meantime, the freezing weather isn't putting too much of a damper on things here in sunny Andover... It was lovely and toasty at The Lamb Session last Tuesday, with a good turn-out!

    Hi Roger - I'm afraid I won't be able to make it this year as I'm on our annual family jaunt (carefully fitted in around the music school holidays!) - it will no doubt involve many hours of walking and tea-drinking, but sadly not very much ceilidh-ing. Might have to see what I can do about that for next year!

    Roger’s Rant

    the mini festival where all can be stars

    at Milborne St Andrew in Dorset

    At this point in time arrangements for the rant are well in hand, with lots of friends -new, old and those we haven’t met yet coming!

    We envisaged last year’s weekend as a participatory affair and this year we are continuing within a similar vein, but with a show case concert as well. It goes without saying that an audience will be welcome at any of the sessions.

    Tickets for the Saturday night Ceilidh £6
    Pub sessions & Folk club free with a bucket collection

    Any profit made will be split between the RNLI,
    Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance and next year’s RANT


    Camping with use of showers & indoor toilets, also hard standing for campervans & caravans, all at the cost is £5.00 per night per person

    Had a Fab weekend if now somewhat exsausted! Realy enjoyed calling the Ceilidh, but a huge thanks to our Guest callers David & Dick, who gave my (slightly poorly) voice a rest & meant I could have a bit of a dance too. - so next year....
