Rogue State Alliance - Part II
featuring Godessa, Greis, Black Tiger, Jitsvinger, Crosby, Tonee, J.J. Flueck, Pan and many more
“Rogue State of Mind II”
“EVERY FREE MIND IS A ROGUE STATE IN THE EYES OF THOSE WHO WANT ABSOLUTE POWER.”
Can Hip Hop crossing the barriers of language and culture have common core values? A mere wish for many people, but not for rappers like Black Tiger, Godessa, Greis, Pan and their Swiss - South African fellow-members involved in the combo Rogue State Alliance.
"Rogue State Alliance" (RSA) stands for freedom of mind and freedom of speech, paired with skill and composure of the involved artists. The fact that a delegation of artists go to their partner’s country for the sixth time between the 2004 and 2008 shows that this exchange project has got a lasting potential and is not just a flash in the pan. This time, the encounter is taking place in Switzerland.
After 2006, when the three Female Mcees of Godessa, the multitalent Greis from Lausanne and the Bernese rapper Pan of Whodis? were the core artists of the group, all eyes are now on the Mcee and rap pioneer Black Tiger from Basel, the two Capetownians Jitsvinger (Mcee and Poet from Godessa’s label High Voltage Entertainment) and Crosby (aka Digi Analog, Mcee and reggae singer), as well as on the two Godessa / Rogue State Alliance band-members and producers Tonee Schiavano and JJ. Flueck. Additionally, the RSA will be supported by the South African Mcee, freestyle king and comedian Sky 189, who recently has moved to St. Gallen and by Burni Aman of Godessa who will move the masses for sure.
Following the success of Rogue State’s first release "Rogue State of Mind" (Label: Otravez/ Distribution: www.nationbiztribution.ch for Switzerland and www.kmd.co.za for South Africa) featuring well-known guests such as Seven, Baze, Rennie of “Sektion Kuchikäschtli” and performances of Godessa & Guests at Open Air Frauenfeld 2006, Gurtenfestival Bern 2006 (RSA album launch) among others, the finishing touch on the second album is now running at full speed. In August 2007 Black Tiger, Tonee Schiavano and J.J. Flueck stayed in Cape Town for one work-intensive month. Besides workshops and diverse shows with a total of over 30 artists involved, the team mainly focussed on the planning and production of the second Rogue State album.
The compositions of this follow up album will be presented in Switzerland by Jitsvinger and Crosby aka Digi Analog during summer 2008 backed by the rogue state alliance band. Besides the artists featured on Rogue State of Mind I some new guests will be added from both Switzerland and South Africa. Another versatile and profound album with an enlarging network of artists and wide repertoire can be expected. Within this period the Rogue State Alliance will be supported by Godessa (Burni Aman, Shameema, EJ von Lyrik), the female Hip Hop outfit from South Africa who by now is well known in Switzerland. The trio that brought this project to life will then be in Switzerland for the fourth time.
The proceeds of the sales of the CDs Rogue State of Mind I and II are to go to ‘Party with a Purpose Productions’, a non profit organisation involved in social amelioration in South Africa. The artists’ aim is to create awareness for the project in Switzerland as well as South Africa (for more info see cd booklet). The artists see this project as an opportunity of giving something back to the disadvantaged communities from where Godessa, Jitsvinger, Crosby, Sky 189 and other South African artists involved in the project come from.
