Did I record these DIY demos solo, overdubbing one instrument at a time, because I don't believe in hired professionals??? Not exactly. Employing skilled session players works for some situations, i.e. paid gigs. For studio jobs, all too often, mini budget and clinical, hurried production go hand in hand. At home I can record as long as it takes to capture a reasonably presentable approximation of a new song, without watching clocks racing or bank balances shrinking. I don't insist on note perfect interpretation whilst a composition remains in the making. The obvious step forward is to polish it up in a tight, team spirited band where it's each performers job to add his/her personal touch.
