   About RollerSkate Skinny

.. width="425" height="350">..> We named ourselves in honor of a turn-of-phrase in the J.D. Salinger classic Catcher in the Rye, suddenly the noise-pop band Rollerskate Skinny was formed in Dublin, Ireland in 1992 by vocalist/guitarist Ken Griffin, guitarist Ger Griffin (no relation) and bassist Stephen M. After debuting with our 1992 EP Novice, we released the ten-inch Trophy. After signing to Beggars Banquet, Rollerskate Skinny issued a 1994 debut LP Shoulder Voices, followed by the EP Threshold; upon Shields' departure to form Lotus Crown, the remaining 3 or us signed to Warner Bros. and delivered the excellent Horsedrawn Wishes in 1996. The album is Ten years and one month old this month !. It has some of our very best moments on it........ Loads more on where we are at now comming soon...Im just getting started!

i heard jimi secretly played and sang every track on every record! i think that makes him pretty gosh darn talented! since he wasnt even IN the band for the second record! it takes a genius to pull that off!!!
hi-fi drowning

Feb 22 2007 9:12 PM

both albums are works of genius. it's amazing how many times we dropped the rollerskate skinny name and got blank stares, followed by enlightened eyes after showing them the music.

No problem..its been nice " talking to you " say a big Hello to JImi if you see him and wish him good luck in everything.Jesus I was 24 the last time I talked to him, ok now I am off to throw myself under a New York City bus..... bye!!!!!
I Will Avenge

Dec 13 2006 8:25 AM

that's a fair comment Ken. Sorry, fans can be a bit tiresome I suppose. I guess I've always held debut albums in high regard. Thanks for the response.
FAVOURITE SONS

Dec 12 2006 7:26 AM

I dont think anyone is trying to exclude Jimi from the history of the band, he's a very talented guy and contributed enormously to the first album. Its just all we made was 2 albums and Jimi didn't play on Horsedrawn Wishes which Truthfully over the years has just garnered more attention than Shoulder Voices.I have never and would never take credit for anything Jimi did, as I am only interested in truth, and am very clear and content with my own contributions. So can we drop it now...Ha Ha!!!! Lets remember we are talking about Rollerskate Skinny not some huge hulking success.Phewwww!!!!
I Will Avenge

Dec 12 2006 1:51 AM

Hi Ken, yeah it is unfair to include you in those comments below, I love what you did on Shoulder Voices. I should point out that Guy Fixsen is a friend of mine and he has confirmed my feelings (as a fan) that someone is trying to write out a crucial contributor to the band. It's black and white.

Dec 11 2006 9:06 AM

This is Ken from Rollerskate skinny the comments below are at least incorrect,Steve,Ger and myself were the soul of rss, not to sound bitter, but for the sake of accuracy and the truth i just thought i'd point it out, in fact myself, Ger and steve played together for 3 years before meeting Jimi and 3 years and one album after parting ways.Jeez!!! this is pathetic, but so be it.Cheers for keeping the memory alive.
I Will Avenge

Dec 11 2006 7:09 AM

PS. I interviewed Jimi Shields for a fanzine some time ago, do you have a contact for him?
I Will Avenge

Dec 11 2006 6:56 AM

hey guys, why keep down playing the role that Jimi Shields had in shaping the band. He was crucial to the band. While in the band he wrote and played more than any other single member; He christened the band, he directed the artwork...come on don't be soft on truth. Show some spine!
