GRAVEHAVEN: Calico

Influences... I'm an artist, and if you give me a tuba, I'll bring you something out of it. ...
Sounds Like What people are saying:

"On their sophomore self-released EP, "Calico," [Roman Traffic] prove themselves as one of the stronger up-and-coming hard rock bands in the country......This young band clearly has a masterpiece in them, and if this isn’t it already, it’s damn close." (Dan Goldin)
EXPLODINGINSOUND.COM

"With their second EP Calico, innovative songwriting and experimentation has placed the band above many of their peers." (Dave Spak)
--DECOYMUSIC.COM

"Polyrhythms and intricate drum accents with progressive dynamics fit well with sparkling vocals that added light to the darker instrumental flavors. This is intense music, with an undercurrent of controlled chaos, but accessible and never off-putting." --PERFORMER MAGAZINE

"On the whole, this is a maturely conceived and well-arranged set of songs that improves with every listen. Nearly every track is at least a minor gem. This is definitely a band to watch." (Francis DiMenno)
--THE NOISE

"...there’s a slew of excessive musical interplay featured on this disc (”Burning Dollars”), almost as much as the amount of intriguing songwriting twists and turns (”Lunatic”) which require repeated listens to fully absorb. Cranially complex yet not completely incomprehensible, [Roman Traffic] have presented a weighty album laden with rhythmic shifts and far away soundscapes yet still bring home an air of catchiness to satisfy all fronts." (Matt SOS) --GEARS OF ROCK

"This promising Boston band plays catchy and melodic hard rock with contemporary flourishes and production. There are no fancy guitar soloists or overly complicated song structures, yet these guys flat-out rock, and man, can they sing... This is the kind of rock that keeps you young." --PROGRESSION MAGAZINE

"heavily melodic, rip-tight progressive rock suggests a steady career ahead without reliance on fickle trends." -- THE BOSTON HERALD

   About Roman Traffic
Hailing from Boston, Massachusetts, Roman Traffic's blend of prog-rock and post-punk has carried them through years of peforming, touring, and self-releasing two records since late 2005. Their 2006 debut EP, Perceptions for the Colorblind, caught the attention of local and national press and new media outlets, including praise from Decoy Music, calling Roman Traffic "one of the best unsigned bands that you need to hear."

Since, Roman Traffic has focused on developing their live show, performing at numerous venues across the northeast states. Incorporating new and diverse instrumentation into their set became a priority, translating smoothly to their 2008 studio release, Calico, produced by Kris Smith (Olympia, Dropkick Murphys) and mixed by Matthew Ellard (Converge, Morphine). The dueling banjo and mandolin intro to the album makes clear the departure from the band’s earlier works, as Calico features classic acoustic instruments and a variety of keys, including Mellotron and Wurlitzer.

Now touring the east coast with a live show that is not to be missed, Roman Traffic continues to garner a strong following nationally. The band keeps fans - new and old - up to date with an ongoing video and photo blog, documenting everything from the recording process to tour antics.

YOU FUXORS. That was a killer show the other night. And now you know where we rehearse, to boot. Seriously, it was tons of fun jamming out with you until the wee hours. Hope you guys made it home in one piece! We'll be heading back up to Boston soon; in the meantime, keep us in the loop! HAPPY TURKEY, TURKEYS.
