Well, like I said before, I'm interested in literary criticism and American studies. Specifically, I dig Marxist criticism (Marx and the Frankfurt School of critical theory), literature and film (Mel Brooks, Woody Allen, Stanley Kubrick mostly), cultural studies and literature of the American South, popular culture, 20th century American literature with emphasis on the Progressive Era, modernism and postmodernism, and social issues in literature.
What classic movie diva are you?
Your inner classic movie diva is:
Greta Garbo
This enigmatic screen legend is known for her unparalleled beauty and mysterious nature. Never married, and often reclusive, she enjoyed private time to herself and never played the Hollywood game, preferring instead to create a meaningful private life that was out of the limelight. She enjoyed a simple life of waking up early, being outdoors often, and eating healthy food.
"There are some who want to get married and others who don't. I have never had an impulse to go to the altar. I am a difficult person to lead." -- Greta Garbo Take this quiz!
Oh, just about everything. I'll rock out to Eminem, love Disturbed (especially their take on Phil Collins' "Land of Confusion", Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, all country music basically. I love hard rock, classical (Mozart and Bela Fleck, mostly), truly in love with Bluegrass/Americana and the blues. I don't dig Diddy, P. Diddy, Puff Daddy, Puffy, Sean "Puffy" combs, or whatever it is he's calling himself these days.
Movies
Oh, let's see. "Blazing Saddles", All things Star Trek (television and the movies), "American Beauty", "Finding Forrester", "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby" (as a modern satire on southern culture), "Goodfellas" and just about anything with Robert Dinero in it; "Wallace and Grommit"; "As Good as It Gets" and most things with Jack Nicholson in it; lots and lots of others.
Television
Star Trek, House, Bones, CSI, Till Death, Seinfeld, Family Guy (ABSOLUTELY CRACKERS OVER FAMILY GUY), Futurama, the Simpsons, Saturday Night Live and MAD TV, CBS evening news with Katie Couric, My Name is Earl, The Office, old TV shows in reruns/syndication including The A-Team, Golden Girls, cartoons of the 80's (He-Man, Transformers, Thundercats, GI. Joe, anything that takes me back...) and SOAP.
Books
Anything by Hemingway (especially The Sun Also Rises) Faulkner (As I Lay Dying and Light in August, mostly), Douglas Adams' "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series", 1984 and Animal Farm; anything by Al Franken; The Great Gatsby and the Anarchists Cookbook; Dialectic of Enlightenment by Max Horkheimer and Theodor Adorno.
Heroes
Superman, Optimus Prime, my grandfather (had to throw the cheesy one in there), our beloved former president William Jefferson Clinton (whom I would love to have as supreme ruler of the US, if not the entire world)

About me:
Hi and welcome to my Myspace page. I don't do this very often, so more than likely you won't find anything new here unless it's your first vistit.
I'm a Graduate Assistant in the Department of English at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. I teach two sections of Freshman English composition, while taking classes toward my PhD in American literature. I'm happily married to Danelle and the proud daddy of Briana, Oliver, and Calvin (two cats and a ferret, respectively).
You scored as Eaten. Your death will be death by wild animals. You will probably get eaten by a bear or shark something because you don't know the natural safety precautions and are ignorant.
Who I'd like to meet: I'd like to meet people interested in writing, literary criticism, and improving America through a left-wing/socialist agenda. I can't change the world on my own, and neither can you. Together, we can.
hey ron, glad to hear from you! i had to work christmas so i was a bit of a scrooge this year! But its over and ready for the new year. I am so sorry about jason, i wanted to make it to funeral but i was very sick with flu. Just know my thoughts were with you. I would have like to have seen you.
Hey there! I hope your first week was wonderful. I just wanted to make sure that you got the email about the Fantasy Football. I sent you an invitation, and I think I sent it to your SIU account.
Let me know if you didn't get it, and I'll send it again.
We won't be back in Carbondale until the day of PSW. We are trying to delay our 4 months of commuting as much as we can.
We also just got back from Indiana University where I delivered a conference paper on Suzan-Lori Parks. It was a good experience but tiring. We have been traveling A LOT this summer.
We can still do lunch on one of those PSW days however.
IEA? Is that the Union conference? What happened there?
And yes, unfortunately I have been moved to 2261 with my beautiful bride, so don't feel too sorry for me. I lucked out in the end.
Take care. Oh, and I would love to see you syllabus for 120H, my SIU e-mail address is bt plus my last name. I'm not going to spell it all out for the spammers.
I have been experimenting with Blackboard more and more this summer, and I have a number of real cool ideas for my teaching classes, but since I don't have all of my books yet, I'm not sure what kinds of papers I am going to do for the class.
Ron: thanks again. I appreciate that you were at least willing to take my class. I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you in time to save you the trouble of coming in.
I was talking to a 291 student of mine today about what I want to study, and I replied comic books. He told me that was the most nerdy thing he had heard since his 101 teacher gave a talk about Optimus Prime. I knew, instantly, that it was you. Andrew Schouten.
Secondly, in my comic book reading, I came across this book called Incognegro. I don't remember if you are still writing about lynchings, but the book centers around several lynchings.
lol its like we are but its like we just kinda dont have like a date set, umm ya its not like in a year or anything lol but weve planned on it and we know were gonna b 2gether 2 make it happen
