TOUR NEWS
Ron was recently invited to audition for legendary performer Dennis DeYoung (singer/songwriter and co-founder of the rock group Styx) and was offered the job as drummer for the 2007 fall tour dates, which he accepted. While learning the show, Ron suffered a shoulder injury from an accident, which forced him to bow out of the fall tour dates. Sad...but true.
However, he is fully recovered, played to over 80,000 people during a holiday production in 2007 and is enjoying a busy live schedule with his new band Hey Jimmy. Ron also continues to look for more touring and studio work. Thank you to all for the continued support!
ABOUT RON BARNES
Ron’s reputation as a dynamic, versatile and reliable session drummer has kept him busy with both live and studio work. From radio-friendly pop to slammin’ hard rock, contemporary Christian to country, R&B, fusion, hip hop and everything in-between, Ron’s passion for laying down a groove is easy to see and hear. Although capable of entertaining audiences with his soloing abilities and stage showmanship, it is Ron’s ability to play drums musically, whether it be straight and solid, or funky and loose with chops, that contributes to the end goal ~ which is, rhythmically speaking, to give the song just what it needs. Ron is also able to seamlessly integrate with loops, click and track support and has considerable experience with using this technology in live applications.
LIVE PERFORMANCES
Although Ron has extensive studio experience (see below), his primary source of drum work is from touring and live performances. He served from 2003-2008 as one of the premier drummers for, arguably, one of the most influential, non-denominational, churches in North America – Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington, IL – which serves 23,000 people per weekend. Ron also held the drum and percussion chair for Willow's 2006 holiday production – “Imagine Christmas” - which drew attendance figures of 70,000 over four days, and was made into a full-length DVD, as well as aired on CBS network television. Ron also held the drum and percussion chair for Willow's 2007 holiday production of "Imagine Christmas" as well, which drew attendance figures in excess of 80,000 over five days and was again featured on CBS network television.
In addition to his own band, Ron currently performs, or has performed, live as the primary go-to drummer for the following bands and artists:
Ken Arlen Orchestra
Mars Williams and Liquid Soul
Little Nashville
Maggie Speaks
Spoken Four
Final Say
The Good Mondays
Due West (Chip & The Boys)

Andy Tianis (Chicago, IL)
Tiffany Hull (Nashville, TN)
Seth Bradley (Chicago, IL)

Other past or present live work includes George Lynch (Dokken, Lynch Mob, Yamaha clinician), Ernie Watts (GRP), Robynn Ragland, Ralph Covert and the Bad Examples (band member from 1996-2001), Ralph's World, Middle 8 (band member from the group's inception in 1997), The Others, Rick Rock All-Star Band, Sez Who, Big Backyard, Wildwood, The Midnight Circus and other various stage productions, and Vlasta.
STUDIO WORK
Ron has appeared on more than 1,000 studio tracks, mostly independent, over his career thus far. He currently serves as a premier session drummer for several producers including Jimmy Riley (Yamaha, WillowCreek, Pro Tools Editor/Engineer, Performer/Songwriter) and Roger Adler (“Groundhog Day”, Studio-A, TV/Film Production). Credits include jingles as well as demo and full production album work. Ron can also be heard on tracks from the following artists: Jimmy Riley, Andy Tianis, Promised Land Sessions (Willow Creek), Roddy Chiong (Shania Twain), Ralph's World (Disney), Noele Leisure, Kat Parsons (as heard on MTV's “The Real World”), Ralph Covert and The Bad Examples, Tiffany Hull, Middle 8, Sammy Tenuta and Wildwood, Mark Zeus, Laura Doherty and many others.
