Founder and President of Roni Deutch, A Professional Tax Corporation
Roni Lynn Deutch is better known as The Tax Lady for a reason: she has dedicated the last two decades to resolving IRS tax problems for Americans, nationwide. Consequently, she has become a well-known media personality and one of the most popular go-to tax experts in the country. Background and Education Before she became The Tax Lady, Roni Deutch was a ballplayer. Raised with five brothers, Roni grew up playing baseball with the boys. In fact, she became the first female in California history to play baseball in an all boys’ league. The following year, Roni was selected as an All-Star. Roni parlayed her prowess on the ball field to an impressive collegiate career at University of California, Berkeley. After completing her undergraduate studies, Roni moved on to law school where she discovered the pitfalls of the Federal Taxation system and the devastating impact it can have on those who owe the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). This revelation spurred her to become president of the student tax association and advance her studies to obtain a Master of Laws in taxation. Since 1991, Roni has been a licensed attorney in California, and rated "Excellent" by Avvo, an independent attorney ranking organization. After law school, Roni embraced her competitive spirit, diving headfirst into a field dominated by men: taxes. She formed her law office from her rented condominium in 1991. While still paying off $120,000 in student loans, Roni maxed out her credit cards to advertise her fledgling firm. After her first television commercial aired, the telephone rang off the hook, and a new sensation was born. Professional Since that first commercial aired in 1991, Roni’s condo-based law office transformed into Roni Deutch, A Professional Tax Corporation. The Tax Lady’s commercials are now viewed by millions daily. As a result, her law firm received over 96,000 inquiries for service last year. Boasting 16 attorneys and a staff over 100, Roni’s law firm has helped tens of thousands of taxpayers save millions of dollars over the years. Building upon the success of her law firm, Roni created her own tax preparation company, Roni Deutch Tax Center in 2006. The following year, she expanded its scope, selling RDTC franchises across the country. In 2008, RDTC, Inc. became the fastest growing tax preparation franchising company in the country. Media Roni Deutch’s reputation as a tenacious tax attorney fighting the big bully—the IRS—is well known. She is a repeated featured guest on both television and radio, including FOX Business Network, Air America’s Thom Hartmann Radio Program, and CNN Radio’s The Investing Revolution, discussing a range of topics from last minute tax tips to the anticipated increase in audits. Roni has also been featured in the NY Post, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Sun-Times, Sacramento Bee, and more. She is also known internationally, having been interviewed for periodicals in Paris, France and Australia. In 2009 Roni added another line to her already impressive resume: Author. Her first book, The Tax Lady’s Guide to Beating the IRS and Saving Big Bucks on Your Taxes, hit the shelves just in time for tax season. The book is an approachable guide to putting the reader in control of his or her taxes. It provides key advice in creating a tax plan, preparing one’s taxes, and considering the tax consequences of many important life choices, such as education, retirement, starting your own business, or investments. Roni’s follow up book is already in the works, projected to release in 2010.
