In late 2002, 3 guys had been jamming in a secret underground location when one of them suggested bringing in another vocalist. Levan Wee was recruited into the band, and was joined shortly after by Simon Lee, who till today still insists that he had only dropped by for a smoke and had been forced into the band when he was told, "Simon, we have a gig coming up in a week and you're playing in it."
While every member of the band came from Victoria School, they weren't all exactly the best of friends. Indeed, it's quite a miracle that the band got together in the first place. On 24th June 2007, however, Vocalist Levan Wee left the band, due to a combination of personal issues and differences in musical direction.
Ronin has taken the opportunity to begin work on their second album in earnest, mostly out of the public eye. On 24th February 2008, the band marked their return with a gig at the Esplanade, which the band intentionally did not publicise. Their second album is projected to be completed in early 2009.
Some of Ronin's accomplishments so far include reaching 1 on Power98's Weekly Top20 Countdown with "Black Maria", performing to over 40,000 students in more than 40 secondary and tertiary schools in the unprecedented Nationwide Motorola Rock the School Tour, as well as having been featured in several television programmes and movies; such as the critically-acclaimed, international award winning "Singapore Dreaming" (2006). The band has also performed in arenas such as the Singapore National Stadium, Indoor Stadium, the Esplanade, and at popular festivals including the Mosaic Music Festival and ZoukOut, to a total of several hundred thousand people.
