About me: Ever buy a sword online, sit around for weeks waiting for it to show up, and have it turn out to be total junk? Same here. I got so tired of it, I designed my own sword line, hired a forge to smith them, and started Ronin Katana. Feel free to take a look at my pics, make comments, or drop me a line.

Kujo (Fujiwara) Kanezane was a nobleman and statesman in the 12th century. Kujo is also famous for writing a diary called Gyokuyo. On March 26, 1177, he took his daughter for her first visit to Kasuga Shrine and other temples in Nara. In his diary, he wrote
"On our way to the shrine, many deer appeared in the morning darkness. This is a sign from the gods and a good omen. People say that when one encounters deer, he or she should get out of the carriage and bow to them."— From Gyokuyo by Kujo Kanezane.
Extending eastward from Nara, the Kasuga Hills have been inhabited by deer (sika deer : Cervus nippon) since prehistoric times. These deer were depicted on religious paintings as sacred animals on which deities are mounted.
The deer of Nara have been strictly protected by the local authorities of all ages. This protection has sometimes been excessively strict, such that the penalty for killing deer was a death. After World War II, the divinity of the deer was officially renounced. Today, about 1,200 deer inhabit the area around Nara Park in a semi-wild state. They are designated and protected as a natural treasure by the government .
My garden is looking good this year as we are not being submerged under great amounts of rainfall this year. We have had floods in the previous months of June and some were really bad two years ago.I am having to find snail resistant plants though and have settled for the good old roses .We have tons of snails over here and the Romans used to eat them - methinks they need to re-invade Britannia! Only kidding...Best wishes to your new recruit and maybe he might make a good archaeologist if he likes digging? All my love to you all in Texas and could you bottle up some of that sunshine and export it maybe?
