Rhode Island singer-songwriter-guitarist Ronnee Ringquist combines a melodic vocal range with a passion for driving acoustic-rock rhythms and moving lyrical themes.
"She writes lyrics like an upstart novelist, like she's spent long days staring beyond her typewriter, looking out her window at someone else's life." - Vaughn Watson, "The Providence Journal"
Ronnee has continued performing in clubs and coffeehouses throughout the southern New England area for more than 12 years, and recorded her debut CD, “Spirit of the Heart" at Woodshed Studios in Sturbridge, MA. Her solo performances include a mix of original and cover songs, and her classic “acoustic-rock” style and choice of material continue to draw her audiences' praise and applause.
About Spirit of the Heart
Warmly acoustic with a light rock rhythm, "Spirit of the Heart" , brings together nine songs that touch upon many different aspects of life, love and survival.
From "The Legend of Robbers Roost", a true account of the western desert ranch where Butch Cassidy made his home, to the inner-city ghetto streets of "Born on the South Side", Ronnee transports the listener through a mosaic of imagery and human emotion. "We", a bright song of hope for a new relationship just beginning, stands in bold contrast to "Changes Never Come", an introspective view of a couple's end. The title song, "Spirit of the Heart", speaks of love as a force with a power all its own... bringing us each to our truest love, but only when we learn to let go and trust in ourselves.
"Without a Dime", a wake-up call to society's apathy toward the plight of the homeless population, follows on the heels of "Mama Don't Sing No More", as told from the heart of a displaced child who still carries the key to the home her family once shared. "Samantha's Lullaby" is a sweeter tune of childhood innocence, filled with endless wonder, imagination and joy.
Lastly, "Dreams and Philosophies" is Ronnee's tribute to legendary singer-songwriter Shawn Phillips, whose music and lyrics have inspired her throughout her life and continue to do so today. Of special note is the fact that eight of Mr. Phillips' song titles have been incorporated into the lyrics of this original song.
