We interrupt your regularly scheduled programming for an important announcement. . . drum roll, please . . . Make room for the Goddess of Sound. That’s what WE are trying to do. We really don’t know where she came from, but are so happy to welcome Niki Svara to our musical family.
You will see by the selections I’ve put up that she lives and breathes her name. NOW, the only problem is in deciding how to integrate the goddess into our anti-project.
The idea has been proposed that we keep our former identity-free persona, and create an entirely new entity, kind of an alter-ego of ronniesmonster. This has appeal, as we could certainly allow for both.
So anyway, the songs you are hearing came directly out of Niki, and we (the rest of us) just started playing along as she sang. Just like that. As you can hear, the chemistry borders on being magical.
We likely will have to start a new page dedicated to the G of S, so that we can allow for both styles. We are excited about wherever this goes, and will keep you informed. . . . . . . . . .
About RonniesMonster: This is a creative improv band. We mostly play guitars, bass, keyboards and drums, but occasionally pull out sax, ukulele, cello, and whatever else we can get our paws on. We have all been in bands, all are songwriters in our own right, and have great chemistry and tremendous fun doing this. . . We are in an experimental stage right now, and it's pretty damn exciting. We conjure up rhythms and counter-rhythms, layer melodies, effects and loops to create music on the fly. It really started out being entirely improv, yet we've played enough together now that, even though we've never "worked" on songs, they are becoming familiar and taking form in this organic way. I have never been bored playing this way. It is such fun. I love writing with a group, and that's what we do every time we play. The idea is to keep it pretty free form, and play with very little structure - although it's really not as loose as it sounds. You just have to check it out - there is such freedom and infinite room for expression here . . . What's fun about this improv stuff is that every time we play we're creating something completely new, so it never gets stale. I really enjoy it, much more than all the songwriting / practicing / performing / self critique -ing of my former music incarnations. We all just PLAY whatever we’re feeling – have fun, and try to guess where the other guys are heading. It's amazing that it even works. What more can I say than it's a blast to do this. ! . . . Sometimes we try to screw each other up by playing weird sounds, ludicrous tempo changes, or whatever deviousness we can cook up in the moment. There's also this thing that happens when we play, about knowing when the song is 'over' - if any one of us isn't done, they either don't stop (Willma! ), or they come back in to keep it going. That, maybe not so surprisingly, is often when the really good stuff happens. Anyway, if you come to hear us, expect the occasional train wreck. That's half the fun of it. . .
