I am "The Rock." A little island in the middle of the East River; I am about 2 miles long and 800 feet wide. There are around 10,000 folks who live on Roosevelt Island, but with new buildings being built and the Octagon fully occupied and our precious park space being taken away, that number is sure to grow.
I'm very excited that the Tram has not broken down in nearly two years, despite how crowded it is when the F isn't running properly. Basically, I'm the best place in New York City to live...a little slice of quasi-suburbia smack dab in the middle of NYC.

Who is running this site? I have gotten a bunch of messages from people who want to know who I am. It doesn't matter. Let's suffice it to say I'm a lifelong Roosevelt Islander who wanted to create a place for everyone from The Rock to find each other. I don't want credit for this, just looking to bring some RI pride to MySpace.

Can't say I miss the rock, but I sure had some memorable times there. As I was told once before, you can never get away from the rock, you always come back. I'll be back one day. Peace and Love to all heads on The Rock. Specially the ladies ;-)
guy, its still referred to as "the island" in some circles. i lean towards "the rock" sometimes to avoid confusion with outsiders tendency to think of long island.

Damn do i miss the Island, yeah most people call it the rock but when i was growing up we called it the Island. Man i feel old lol. but yeah just like every one els i miss it :D here's to the 90's on the island!!!! best years of my life
