Ryan Sweeney is the singer songwriter behind Roostar. Born and raised in South African, the end of segregation played out during his teen years infusing in him a melancholy tenderness that is the hallmark of his songs. At 22 he moved his base to London and formed international band, Hubbard, playing at venues/festivals like ‘100 club’, ‘Mean Fiddler’, Precious Days and Glastonbury.
His continuing travels saw him complete several solo recordings and move to Australia. Initially Ryan was based in Melbourne, playing venues all over the city with drummer James Rusbridge. (’The Espy’, ‘Corner Hotel’, ‘Empress’ and the ‘Duke of Windsor’ to name a few).
Recently he put down roots in Castlemaine where he met Darren Bujeya, a soulful percussionist and talented guitar player. Together they create raw, beautiful and engrossing songs that linger with you. In March 2007 the duo, recorded an album entitled 'A History of Forgetting'. 2008 has seen the making of a video clip for the track 'Butterfly' and the expansion of the bands line-up to four. Andy Steward joined on the Bass and Chris Grey from the 'beat disease' was helping out on drums for some live shows
With new drummer Dave Rogerson behind the kit, roostar is currently in the studio recording a new album....
