Some people were born to do what they do. Louis Armstrong couldn’t have been anything but the musical ambassador history remembers him as. The story of BB King’s life reads like an introduction to blues, and the world would be a different place today if he had done anything else with his life. IamOmni was born to make music. Really good music. And while comparisons to Armstrong and King may seem extreme, anyone who has ever witnessed IamOmni in motion will tell you that the guitar legend and the jazz pioneer are in good company.
IamOmni is the microphone at the mouth of today’s young world. He voices their wants: love of self, the love of another; freedom of mind, freedom of lifestyle, the freedom of adventure and discovery; health and wealth, both financial and spiritual. He ponders their issues and anxieties - the paranoia that is a byproduct of this modern life of HIV and closed-circuit camera, the confusion of living in a world overflowing yet somehow empty. He lives their indulgences: weed, alcohol, cigarettes, sex, caffeine, fast food: a life of lows and highs. He preaches their values: loyalty, independence, dedication, determination. IamOmni's sound bridges genres from hip-hop to crunk, rock to soul, and his come-one-come-all attitude and embrace of all styles of music gives him an appeal that scores across the board, regardless of your age, ethnicity or musical taste. And even if you can’t understand a word he’s saying, his warm, deep vocal tone and steadfast adherence to the MC’s First Commandment (move the crowd) are guaranteed to keep his tune in your head way after the song’s over.
KING TUBBY
born Osbourne Ruddock,(1941 – 1989) was a Jamaican electronics and sound engineer, known for shaping the face of Dub music in the 1960s and 1970s. Tubby elevated the role of the mixing engineer to a creative fame previously only reserved for composers and musicians, He is often cited as the inventor of the remix. In the 1950s, King Tubby's musical career began with the sound systems, which were set up on the streets of Kingston to play dance music for crowds. Tubby had his own t.v. and radio repair shop where he built large amplifiers for these local sound systems. In 1961 he ran a pirate radio station playing ska and rhythm and blues. Soon after he formed "Tubby's Hometown Hi-Fi sound system", which became a crowd favorite. Tubby's also had his own echo and reverb sound effects that he later applied to his studio dub mixes. His dub mix of the Skatalites "herb man dub" is a good example of his creative sonic imagination.
