On 1st of August Rootikal is proud to welcome the legendary singer, songwriter and producer, Linval Thompson.
Linval started his recording career in the early 70s, working with Phil Pratt, Lee 'Scratch' Perry and Bunny Lee. In the late 70s he founded the Thompson Sounds and Strong Like Sampson labels, and has been steadily releasing fantastic music ever since. Credited with getting his friend Junjo Lawes off the street and into the recording studio, the two of them then kick-started the dancehall revolution of the early 80s. As a producer Linval has worked with many of the greats including Cornell Campbell, Barry Brown, Al Campbell, Horace Andy, Freddie McGregor, Wailing Souls, Johnny Osbourne, Barrington Levy and Junior Reid - the list just goes on and on. We're suitably excited to be able to be hosts for this very special night.
On the decks will be Rootikal resident David Rodigan, taking time out from his hectic festival schedule to treat the Rootikal massive to some of the legendary dub-plate specials. David will play 8.00-10.00pm before shooting-off to broadcast his Kiss radio show live. Also in the basement will be Rootikal selectors Earl Gatehead and David Hill, plus trusted mic-man Prince Terralox.
Upstairs in the lounge Rootikal residents Stuart Patterson and Nick B will be joined by MIss Sweety for a classic revive and dub session.
Together they will be spinning a rootikal selection covering all bases of righteous music - no slackness only positivity.
The session kicks off in the lounge at 2pm with a perfect soundtrack to accompany the authentic Caribbean lunch menu, while the basement will run from 6.30pm.
August 1st: Linval Thompson (live PA), David Rodigan, Earl Gateshead, David Hill, Stuart Patterson, MIss Sweety and Nick B
2pm-12.30am - free before 5pm and £5 thereafter
