Sounds Like
I would love to collaborate in either live performance or recording with musicians, other storytellers, poets, spoken word artists, and vocalists. I am also searching for a producer to assist in completing my CD, and an illustrator and editor for publication of my stories.
Stories are like Roots to the Past... and Wings to the Future. Storytelling is an oral art form as ancient as the civilizations of the world, yet, relevant to our time and place.
Denise Valentine's storytelling performance illustrates the power of story to transcend differences between people, inspire hope, and transform negativity.
She tells stories that emphasize the dignity of life, the power of the human spirit, and the interrelatedness of life. She tells stories of Freedom and Hope, opression and resistance. And she tells Lovestories, Stories to Heal the Heart, Stories of Divine Love, Sacred Love, Love & Respect for Humanity, Love for Mother Earth, and Father Sky, Higher Love, Tough Love, One Love.
"That was soothing, provocative, and inspiring, all at the same time." -- Ian Cross, MYX Gallery, Philadelphia
"Just exquisite -- your tone and lilting voice carried me off to another space, out of time and way into my heart." -- Janet Berkowitz, Earth Charter Summit participant
Denise is a professional storyteller, teaching folk artist, writer and human rights advocate. She has a passion for researching history, then bringing it to life with her captivating voice! Denise has a special interest in African and African American folklore and historical narrative. She made her debut as a storyteller with Keepers of the Culture, Inc. (Philadelphias Afrocentric Storytelling Group), in 1997. Since then she has shared stories at schools, libraries, museums, community events and conferences. She developed storytelling programs promoting cultural literacy and diversity, conflict resolution, and recovery and empowerment for at-risk youth, teen parents, battered women, substance abusers and ex-offenders.
In 2004, Ms. Valentine traveled to South Africa as a "storytelling ambassador," with the National Storytelling Network, and People to People Ambassador Programs. She was awarded The Leeway Foundation of Philadelphia, Window of Opportunity Grant to study the preservation of folktale traditions and the influence of politics on contemporary oral stories in South Africa. Denise is on the roster of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, Arts in Education Directory, and a member of the National Association of Black Storytellers (NABS). She is also on the Pennsylvania Humanities Council’s 2008-2009 Commonwealth Speakers Bureau.

I am Dr. JADE BRIGHTLY and I am a V.O.I.C.E. (Violently Overcoming Isolated Circumstances from the Enemy)
YOU TOO are a VOICE!! _________________________________________________________
The enemy is defined as an adversary, foe, opponent, rival, or ally. The enemy may be an outside force but may very well be the inner me.
Which ever definition is suitable, its time to reclaim our lives and define the circumstances that hold us captive. If you or someone you know has been overtaken by isolated circumstances then there is a reason that you are reading this.
We were not created to BOW DOWN, God created us to CONQUER! We can only conquer what we confront. We must prepare by first taking control over our own situations: our finances, our families and our relationships. It is only then that we make a difference on this planet earth.
Isn’t it time that we become a part of the SOULUTION and not the PROBLEM?
just stopping by to see if you're interested in our project....
We've started a collaborative radio station - and we're looking for people to contribute to our output....have a look, have a listen and join up if you'd like to join in!!!
Thanks for accepting my friend request. I love what you do. I was looking at the photos at the museum and in Africa. I like seeing the children with smiles on their faces. The audio on your page is very good. Keep doing what you do because it's very much needed. Many of today's youth are not fully educated on our past. It's so important to get them involved and aware of everything. The past and history. The leaders and role models. The struggle, slavery, and oppression. And the results of those things. Which is what we see today.
Hey Sis! Thank you! Right back at you----I love the pic of all the smiling children around you---YOUR IMPACT IS GREAT!
I'll be in philly this weekend presenting at the African Centered Conference. I'd love to meet---if it can work out. Let's connect, myspace me or contact me thru my site. Blessings!
