ROOTZ HI-FI cuenta con un sistema de sonido artesanal capaz de transmitir frecuencias bajas, profundas y físicas, inspirado por el movimiento generado en Inglaterra, con el fin de mostrar y mantener esta tradición.
El fenómeno de los sound systems nace en Jamaica en los años 50’s como un nuevo estilo de entretención. Eran ingeniosas discotecas móviles equipadas con su propio sistema de sonido artesanal. Debido a su popularidad y a la competencia fueron mejorando tecnológicamente y aumentando en tamaño y potencia. Esto ayudo mucho para el desarrollo de la música en la isla. A través de la historia del reggae tanto en Jamaica como en otros países, desde los años ‘50 hasta la era digital, el sound system ha servido para establecer importantes productores, ingenieros y la mayoría de artistas vocales. Y también ha inspirado numerosas corrientes musicales.
ROOTZ HI-FI cuenta con una colección de vinilos y dubplates para sus presentaciones en público, que van desde el ska, rocksteady, reggae y dub de los años ’60 y ‘70, pasando por el early dancehall de los ’80, hasta las producciones digitales contemporáneas.
ROOTZ HI-FI está integrado por cinco personas que realizan el montaje y operan el sound system, y por lo general, con artistas invitados. Los diferentes miembros del colectivo han participado en diversos proyectos musicales a nivel nacional e internacional y han colaborado con artistas importantes del género y de otros estilos musicales.
ROOTZ HI-FI is dedictated to the promotion of Reggae music and the message of Jah Rastafari.
ROOTZ HI-FI has its own custom made sound system that transmits low range, deep and physical frequencies, which is inspired by similar models from the UK scene and intends to show and preserve this musical tradition.
The sound system phenomenon was born in Jamaica during the 1950’s, as a new form of entertainment. They were considered a creative and inventive form of mobile disco, equipped with their very own handmade sound system. Due to their popularity and a highly competitive environment, they were able to improve technologically and increase both in size and power. This was very important for the development of music across the island.
Throughout the history of Reggae, from the 1950’s to the more recent digital age, sound systems in Jamaica and other countries have helped to launch the careers of many important producers, engineers and vocalists, and have also inspired and influenced many styles of music around the world.
ROOTZ HI-FI has a large collection of vinyls and dubplates available for each of its shows, that ranges from Ska, Rocksteady, Reggae and Dub from the 60’s and 70’s, through to early 80’s Dancehall and current day digital productions.
ROOTZ HI-FI consists of five members who are responsible for setting up and operating the sound system, usually alongside different guest artists. Each member has also taken part in a variety of musical projects, both at local and international level, and has also collaborated with important artists from within the scene and other genres.
