Roque Malasartes is a Brazilian band that plays folk songs from Brazil using urban and traditional instruments, like electric and bass guitars, drums, keyboards, flute, mandolim etc. Its work is unique in the Brazilian musical scene.
The band is on the road since 1996 and has released its new album, "A Memória das Naus".

I've just found the CD you sent me of Roque Malasartes. Well, I've just got to listen to it. The tape is great. I'm flattered that Steeleye Span may have had some influence. It's always hard to hear your own influence on other performers, but I can hear the approach is similar. Do pass on my belated congratulations, if they are still relevant. What have in common bands like Fairport Convention (UK), Nação Zumbi (Brazil), The Byrds (USA), Luar Na Lubre (Spain) and Madredeus (Portugal)? Artists such as Nick Drake (UK), Neil Young (Canada) and Bob Dylan (USA)? You are quite correct if you answered that all of them are music makers inspired by their own folkloric traditions and translators of their popular experiences into a modern musical language.
If any brazilian folkrock band dared to make records and compose songs, it would be a huge task to synthesize native brazilians, africans, europeans and all the people that makes brazilian cultural identity. Roque Malasartes is this band. RockPress - CEL
Con permiso!!!!! os dejo un anticipo de mi próximo disco. Es un homenaje a todos esos músicos anónimos que durante años han alegrado, y seguirán haciéndolo, las calles y plazas de nuestros pueblos. Lo escribí hace la friolera de 30 años, cuando Lorenzo Sancho me construyó una dulzaina en 1979. Se lo dediqué a él y al maestro Agapito Marazuela. Pertenece a mi obra inédita: "La Cantata Castellana" y nunca había tenido ocasión de grabarla hasta ahora. He tenido la suerte de contar en la grabación con las estupendas voces de Jaime Lafuente, Eugenio Rodríguez (Grupo Tradere), Carmen Casado y la niña, Carlota Sánchez. El dueto de dulzainas está a cargo del prestigioso músico y dulzainero, Rafa Campillo, y este aprendiz de dulzainero, para coquetear con las potentes guitarras eléctricas de Paco Cinta, músico habitual en mi Banda.
