Guru Tattoo will have a booth at the Long Beach Ink & Iron Tattoo Festival on June 6, 7 & 8. I'll probably be working the booth on Friday and Saturday. It's been a few years since I've been, but it's a great convention.

I was invited to bring some of my loyal customers to participate in a tattoo art runway show at the Oceanside Museum of Art. The show was a fundraiser for the museum, scheduled to coincide with an exhibit of photographs by Chris Rainier, "Ancient Marks". Here is a video of the runway show. The fundraiser was really fun. The exhibit continues through August 24, 2008.

Leo Zulueta and I were featured on the Learning Channel show, "TATTOO WARS". Each episode focussed on two tattoo artists, culminating with a one-on-one tattoo contest at the end. The second episode was be the tribal episode, and aired on TLC on October 18th at 8:00 PM, and again at 1:00 AM.
In Europe, the show is called "INK WARS", and plays on Sky channel 250 (Discovery). Rumors are that it is in re-runs there, but I'll be damned if I can find any specific schedule for it.
More information for the States is available here.
I'm a tattoo artist who specializes in "tribal" tattoos.
So, what are tribal tattoos? Well, they're generally designs that are based on the tattooing of tribal cultures, most often from the many and various Pacific Islands. The term has come to mean most tattoos that are abstract and executed in solid black.
I was fortunate enough to apprentice under Leo Zulueta at Black Wave, in L.A. back in 1997. I eventually returned to San Diego where I first did a short stint at Superfly Tattoo, and then went to Jade Tattoo in Hillcrest for five years.
Now I can be found at Guru Tattoo, in Pacific Beach. You can see me there Sundays through Wednesdays, Noon to 8 PM.
I'm really extrordinarily poor at keeping up with my MySpace messages, so you should phone me or drop by the shop if you want to talk over some ideas, or have any questions.
You can also check out my webpage: rorytattoo.com, or Guru's webpage: gurutattoo.com. The Guru page is a lot cooler.
I watched the Tattoo War and was just amazed on how you pulled it out. Both you and your canvas seemed to be on the edge. But you and her were great. Your piece was beautiful and as it should be. I have told many people that my artist is going to be on. I take pride in the art work you done on me especially my memorial tattoo of the turtle with my daughters name and kanji in it. For my first tat with you it is still my favorite and most personal. I thank you for doing a awesome job. Keep making you art work your own. I will call you for another at some point. Peace, love and Happiness, Nina
Just dropping in to leave a more recent comment for ya. The last one was by a guy I think you used to work with. He left this large black thing on my leg. I didn't know these things didn't come off after a couple of showers. Oh by the way! can you cover up my arms with some nice pretty colors and maybe a little bit of shading? Hope to get some work done the next trip to San Diego. Keep it black.
