ROSE ROOM BIOGRAPHY

Formed in summer 2010, Rose Room comprises virtuoso violinist and vocalist Seonaid Aitken, Jimmy Moon on double-bass with guitarists Tom Watson and Tam Gallagher completing the line-up on solo and rhythm guitars respectively. The music embraces many of the songs of the swing jazz era with a dash of western swing thrown in for good measure.

Seonaid Aitken (fiddle/vocals) is well known as a solo artist in her own right. She was the winner of the prestigious Danny Kyle Award at Celtic Connections in 2010. Seonaid plays regularly with Roddy Woomble and the orchestra of Scottish Opera – and is also very much in demand as a session player. Rose Room is a new direction for Seonaid having developed a passion for swing jazz listening to Stephane Grappelli.

Tom Watson (lead guitar/vocals) and Tam Gallagher (rhythm guitar/vocals) are probably best known for their work as Swing Guitars. They are fellow Danny Kyle award winners and have since performed at festivals throughout the UK and Europe – establishing themselves as a formidable live act.

Jimmy Moon (double bass) needs no introduction to guitar players. Long term member of The Moonshiners bluegrass band, number one guitar builder in Scotland, his instruments are played throughout the world by the cream of musicians, however it is the double bass that Jimmy turns his hand to in Rose Room.

Following the successful launch of their debut CD “Somewhere in Roseland” at Glasgow’s City Halls in September 2011, Rose Room will go to Seonaid’s home town of Glenrothes to perform at the Rothes Halls on Saturday 28th January 2012. Last year saw them go down a storm at Bute Jazz Festival and they were asked back to headline a special anniversary launch concert for the 2012 festival at The Pavilion in Rothesay. They have appeared to sell out crowds at Kirkudbright Jazz Festival and The West End Festival, Glasgow, and are featured on Glasgow radio station Sunny Govan’s ‘Turn It Up Glasgow – Volume 1’ charity CD as well as having had airplay on Jazz FM, BBC Radio Scotland’s ‘The Jazz House’ and Free FM (Germany).

Nothing more needs to be said other than to prepare to be entertained and charmed by this exciting new band.

"...vigorous and vivacious..."
THE JAZZ HOUSE, BBC Radio Scotland

"...they manage the feat of making music that's essentially rooted in the 1930s sound both fresh and true to its origins."
THE HERALD, Glasgow
