As the only girl in cult surf band The Val Dusty Experiment, Rosie provided a sweetness to their raw folk-rock sound. Now that she's gone solo, her own edges are starting to show. Rosie crafts her songs around simple riffs and melodies, letting the words hold their own. With her band The Thorns an album was recorded by Mick Wordley and his mobile studio and released in October 2009 on the Mixmasters label.
The sound? If Lucinda Williams sang with Band of Horses or Beth Orton fronted Crowded House, you might almost get it. Rosie pushes folk-rock into alt-country territory with ringing melodies and addictive choruses. Everything old is new again!
