Where I Come From: I grew up listening to Patsy Cline, Bob Dylan, Roseanne Cash, CSN, Emmylou and Cat Stevens to name just a few. I watched endless hours of MTV like most kids so I’ll always have a soft spot for Duran Duran. I later gravitated to darker bands like Echo and the Bunnymen and Julian Cope. I love the songwriting, showmanship and genius of the Beatles, the Stones, Bowie, Patti Smith, VU…could go on forever. To wrap up though, my favorite modern influence would probably have to be PJ Harvey…there are probably others but I can’t think of them at the moment.
Where I’ve Been: My first band was an industrial band called Kill Switch…Klick. Truthfully, I didn’t do much except play keyboards live, trigger samples and sing back up vocals. Looking back I had no business being in that band but it was valuable experience! Moved to Boston right out of high school and started the Boston band Flexie w/ my cousin and three very dear friends. We spent six years writing, performing and showcasing - all that crap the lawyers tell you to do – and had a great time driving each other insane. When everyone decided to split and do their own thing I started my own band The Baby Reds, which evolved over time into my solo project under my own name. I had the opportunity to record a record and play my songs, the way I wanted, with some very remarkable people backing me up over the years. More recently I’ve recorded with legendary producer George Massenburg, had a few songs placed on episodes of MTV Made, and played some solo shows on the West Coast and in the U.K.
What I’m Doing Now: Still writing plenty of songs, working on my next solo record, selling songs, writing a book (isn’t everyone?), working on a new live project that is too new to have many details. If you’re still reading this you must like my music in which case, I’ll keep you posted….
