After seeing a few house concerts here in Jersey, I knew that I just had to host house concerts too. I have a lot of friends who love music as much as I do, so I knew it would be no problem to get them to come. The only problem was that I thought my house was too small to host a concert.**
So, my friend, Laura, let me use her house. Did I mention that I have great friends? People came from far and wide to the concerts at Laura's house. Everyone would bring a little food to share and their drink of choice. Then we would sit back and watch some of the best indie performers right there in her house.**
One day while planning a concert, Laurie MacAllister, of the incredible Americana trio, Red Molly, asked me, "what name do you go by?". I had to come up with a name, so I quickly decided to use "Rosie's Cafe House Concerts" in honor of my sweet old dog, Rosie. I'm pretty sure Rosie was flattered.**
Things were going great for Rosie's Cafe, but then Laura sold her house! I still wanted to do the house concerts and that's where my friend, Cook, comes in. He said, "why don't you use the hall at my church?". See, I told you that I have great friends. And that's where we are now. **
We use the hall in a lovely old church, near the beach, in Asbury Park - the Atonement Lutheran Church at First Avenue and Heck Street. **
Sometimes we don't need a venue as large as the church hall. When that happens, Cook and his lovely wife, Laurie, open the parlor of their beautiful Victorian home in Loch Arbour, just across the bridge from Asbury Park, for us to use. Or, sometimes we have the concerts at my home. Turns out that even though my living room is really, really small, it's a great place for an intimate acoustic show. It doesn't matter where we hold the concerts; we have a great time and see some of the best music coming out these days.**
Hope you can make it to one of our concerts soon.
Brenda
Brenda, thanks for coming to the house concert on Sunday, and for taking such fabulous pictures too! It was nice to talk about Tift Merritt and Patty Griffin and have somebody nodding their head in recognition. :-) I would love to hear how the concert with Amanda went. I just love her and Rod Picott!
