ROS (sabbia, addiction rec.)
The history of DJ Ros - one of the unquestioned creator of Drum&Bass scene in Poland – finds its source in Italy. He has there, at the start of the 90s, been totally infected with club music, which in Poland at the time was still in its infancy. When he came back after 5 years (1995) he decided that it was his duty to spread the virus of good party in his homeland, what in effect brought co-operation with the legendary Warsaw club Blue Velvet. He offered jazzy house straight from Chicago and New York to the visitors of that club. In the meantime, his promotion of club music turned towards the first vinyl store “Analog Record Shop” in Poland.
In 1997, when the house scene got saturated, Ros still felt voracious. He noticed that it was not what he spinned at the time, but the atmospheric tunes of Good Looking label that put him into that sweet state felt by someone being in his element. The deal was sealed and as one of the first he started building the drum & bass scene. At first he introduced this music to chill out spots, where with his smooth tunes he made many clubbers melt.
The fact that he has in January ’98 settled in the Tri-cities has played a major role in the (sub) cultural future of this agglomeration – a person appeared who has without hesitation started spreading practically unknown music trends. At the start of 1999 he launches a project called SABBIA KRU, which unites performance of a DJ (Ros), an MC (RDW), a scratcher (Cent) and lTrumpet (Dominik Trebski). A group full of dynamic, representing a stronger beat than before, has directed the ears of many listeners towards drum & bass, arousing an increasing interest in this music style.
Activities of Ros were not limited to clubbing, a more ambitious project was for example a concert tour with jazz musicians – Jan Pluta (percussion) and Krzysztof Scieranski (bass) in 2001, which promoted drum & bass and jazzy breaks among a different type of recipients and at the same time aimed at creating a connecting bridge between live and club music scenes.
From March 2002 he ran a vinyl shop ADDICTION RECORDS in Gdynia. In spite of a constant intensive presence on the scene, he still finds time for production (Addiction is also a label), these further on find recognition of phonographic studios.
It has to be stressed that from 2004 Sabbia is only a production project, co-operating with producers, musicians and vocalists.
To complete the picture of a man who is enchanted by what he does, one cannot forget about organisational activities of Ros. The cycle ADDICTION NIGHT, is a recognised and quality representing brand. It brought the people music of such stars like: LTJ BUKEM & MC CONRAD, MAKOTO & DEEIZM, PFM, BMT, CYANTIFIC, NOOKIE feat. LADY FREE & FIVE ALIVE, A.I., SUBJECT 13, LENZMAN, RAY KEITH, JOHN B, SKC and more...
