An artisan chocolate espresso bar, this is my experiment in what a "good" company would look and act like.
Some of the things I'm doing right now:
Limiting all shipping to the local area. This is both to promote human interaction and responsibility in what I do, but also to allow all my shipping to be done on my bike, or by public transit. We've got to figure a way out of this oil crisis. Local business is the best way.
I am using coffee from a local coffee co-op, called independents coffee co-op. They are doing some really good things, and it's certified fair-trade.
Limiting profits to a minimum. Running my own company will allow all money that comes in above and beyond basic necessity to be given away or placed in a foundation. Voluntary simplicity is the war-tax resistance I have chosen.
All product is hand-made, packaged, and delivered. Machines are used only when absolutely necessary, ie for cooking. As Wendell Berry says, "The greatest untapped energy source may be in human bodies"
Hopefully the future will allow for me to experiment in even more creative and sustainable ways. Your suggestions are always appreciated.
