Sounds Like
"Since music is a language with some meaning at least for the immense majority of mankind, although only a tiny minority of people are capable of formulating a meaning in it, and since it is the only language with the contradictory attributes of being at once intelligible and untranslatable, the musical creator is a being comparable to the gods, and music itself the supreme mystery of the science of man, a mystery that all the various disciplines come up against and which holds the key to their progress."
- Claude Lévi-Strauss
So something like that i think
I reached a turning point in life after getting married in June to my beautiful wife Grainne and had some ideas for a concept album based on the order of elements and how they link to factors of a relationship. I chose the Chinese elements of Wood, Earth, Water, Fire and Metal to represent key components of a great relationship: Sacrifice, Trust, Direction, Passion and Commitment respectively. Each song is an exploration of this.
WOOD/SACRIFICE: Every person who enters a relationship must give up something to become closer like wood must surrender life for it's use in art.
EARTH/TRUST: All relationships must be built on a foundation of trust without which they would crumble. After all you can't build a home to last a lifetime upon weak earth.
WATER/DIRECTION: Both players in this show called life, must have the same direction and principles and vision for change. Water's flow may appear erratic intially but always has a predetermined direction.
FIRE/PASSION: Without this spark all is pointless, fire like love can provide the sustenance we need, but can burn us just as easily.
METAL/COMMITMENT: Metal is unyielding to the ravages of nature and life, as must a good partnership. This song is very special to me as it is about my wedding day, I hope you all find this kind of happiness.
I have called the collection of songs "ETHEREAL" which means 'heavenly in classic beliefs' it was thought of as the unknown invisible force that binds us all together. In my mind this could be faith or love, but whatever it is, without it all the above elements would fail to be without the guidance and protection of the ether, making it the single most important of all of them.
Enjoy these songs, I hope they inspire you as much as writing them has inspired me. Peace and Love, Ross
