On this page i want first to thank these artists, who have given and will give to me such great moments through their tunes and/or gigs and/or by rubbing shoulders with them. Music will never be a minor art till it generate a PIN number to change of scene, emotions, beauty
I'll like the things which, the people who, i can be sensitive to.
Musically speaking, i've more looked towards folk/soul/jazz than pop-rock last months.
What i am seeking in a tune: catchy melody, singer/chanteuse with a recognizable tone of vocals, emotion, lyrics telling me a story, not overproduced tune, at last a good and sincere flow/swing involving me in the tune.
Take a little time to have a listening of my playlist if you want to get some samples of my musical tastes :)
A first glance at my musical universe with 3 live videos:
Regina Spektor - One More Time with Feeling
Regina Spektor is from New-York, somehow offbeat and quirky but full with talent !! Here is a live performance of an unreleased (so far) tune. If you don't feel special emotions and never get goosebumps while listening to her, i'm seriously wondering what has gone wrong with you ? :)
To realize the full potential of this song and of her talent of performer, you can go there (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQItEHHAPiA : sound only): same song.
The render of the acoustic - for the whole gig - notwithstanding the background noise, is perhaps my preferred one among all her captured shows, in so far as it reveals how her voice expands through the space of this venue, a theatre: it's striking, even you won't really be able to notice it on this song.
She's had furthermore a special stance in her interpretation during the whole show. It gives a unique touch to these songs and makes it one of my preferred live recordings of her gigs.
Regina Spektor - The Wallet
Another unreleased tune (it will be on the next record, "Far" released in June) captured during the Australian Tour last summer.
Soon on Tour in US and Europe.
Regina Spektor - Machine
This song is also on "Far". It's at the same time quite different from what she has been used to do, and totally "Reginaian".
It was one on the 5 totally new songs on the album, and probably for me the most unexpected one. It's really the song on the album that moves her music from solo artist to backed artist. It will also probably her first one i'm really expecting to see live with a backing band and thant i can't imagine without it.
Extract from Louis ' first record, "D'apparence en apparence". This song is a special release for the tour, hope you'll enjoy its musical arrangements as much as me !!! I highly recommand you to discover this french singer, who can sometimes remind you the famous Serge Gainsbourg. I've made a report of his last concert in Nantes in my blog.
Last but not least,
Anja Garbarek - Stay Tuned
Anja Garbarek is (also...) quirky, from jazzy and trip-hop influence and is a "must hear" too. Her last record (4th one) was released during autumn 2k05. This video is related to her former record.
Not an artist, but i love it and i love the serial too:
Rachael Yamagata - "Elephants"
You can hear this song on "Elephants ... Teeth Thinking Into Heart", a double CD album (see my 2008 favorite Cds in my blog for a short review) released last year
Who I'd like to meet: I don't wait anything, but i hope everything !!
Myspace is a ring, i enjoy discovering new people through crawling, reading pages or comments.
I want to be able to go to each of my myspace-friends'page easily, without having to browse too much through my friendslist.
So, it first means that i won't request anybody i'm not interested in for any reason.
It also means that i'll pay attention as far as possible to every request i'll get: i won't add someone if i don't already knows him/her somehow, or if i haven't taken time to know more about him/her/them by any way.
I'll see what will happen! It will probably be more surprising than what i could imagine anyway.
Emmy The Great "The Hypnotist's Son" @ BBC
Rachael Yamagata "Elephants"
I really prefer this orchestral version (as on the album) compared to the acapella one she seems to sing live, but ... i'll soon be aware, never know, acapella will probably amaze me anyway ;) (update: we've got the
orchestral version and it was amazing, as the whole set was, ty so much Rachael !)
Sara Bareilles, Rachael Yamagata & Raining Jane "Imagine"
I've just found this video including 2 of my favorites artists singing together, amazing ! The image is dark, but the beauty is somewhere else ...
Rachael Yamagata - Worn me Down @ La Boule Noire 09.02.27
A very recent beautiful commercial. Here in particular for its music: "Everyone's Memory is Snow" from Phildel, featured on her forthcoming album Strange Inventions (spring 2009)
I love this song by BIM ( http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=153290087), and love the video too(it'd been very recently finished. made by Tim's sister, Katy -
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=54063952 -). There's talent in their both works, no ?
Sarah Russell "You Are" Live @ Seb Collective , 27/02/09.

Tu as raté un truc.
+++. Caro
Petit changement de programme pour le Festival Scopitone le dimanche 20 septembre à 18 h 00 : Dan Deacon est remplacé par le Septet The Bewitched Hands on the top of our Heads (Concert Gratuit, Bd Léon Bureau à coté du Hangar à Bananes) :
