“Rough Edges is firmly established ……demonstrate the potential to reach out to far wider audiences.” – Bluegrass Unlimited/February 2008 issue
East Tennessee’s contemporary bluegrass band, Rough Edges, consists of Travis Sutton from Cumberland Gap on bass and lead vocal, Chip McLain from Rogersville on guitar and tenor vocal, Jeff Webb from Newport on banjo and baritone/bass vocal, and Ryan Moyers from the Morristown area on mandolin and baritone vocal.
The band performs progressive and traditional bluegrass, and the guys pride themselves on their ability to move seamlessly from Monroe covers to original material to grassed-up versions of Beatles and Rolling Stones tunes. As polished as this material may be, the band works hard to maintain a raw energy in their live shows, and according to McLain, “It’s a whole lot of fun to have rough edges!”
When asked what makes them distinct, the group always answers with references to their time spent working on harmonies. As driving as their instrumentation may be, the Rough Edges Band is first a vocal band. Special past performances for the band have been the Renfro Valley Barn Dance, the Tennessee Valley Fair, headlining with country group sensation Diamond Rio and their hour-long public television appearance on the Jamming at Hippie Jack’s show.
The band’s debut recording is Heyday, which includes four originals by Sutton and McLain. Bluegrass Unlimited magazine has described the Rough Edges Band as “firmly established within their Tennessee home base” and suggests that “the contents of Heyday clearly demonstrate the potential to reach out to far wider audiences.”
NEWS: Clint has decided to leave REB to join another band. Clint will always be special to us, not only because of his talent and all the fun times we had, but because he is a fine young man. We will miss him as a band member and wish our friend well on all of his future music endeavors.
Ryan Moyers is REB’s new mandolin player! Ryan is a young man who is well on his way in becoming a great bluegrass musician. We are very proud to welcome Ryan into the band and look forward to his polished talents on vocals and mandolin as well as some occasional fiddle. A full biography will come at a later date. We are more than confident that his contribution will further exemplify what REB does best, playing their grass with an edge!
Please check out their official website: www.roughedgesband.net for more information about the band. Rough Edges is currently booking events for 2009. They are excited about the completion of their CD titled Heyday! This CD is now available. It has four brand new original tunes to complete the twelve track CD. Please submit your artist news and events to CountryHome Forum to help your artists to get well known better in Europe. I know that many artists from North America don't have their music videos uploaded to German video websites. The most popular websites are MyVideo.de and ClipFish.de. That means your European audience does not have the chance to find them.
I understand that most of you don't speak German and are not able to upload videos because of the language barrier. If you would like me to upload your videos to the German video websites, please let me know.
Thanks
