Roller derby is an American contact sport—and historically, a form of sports entertainment—based on formation roller skating around a track. Two teams of 5 girls each use blocks and pushes to prevent a specific member of the opposing team (Jammer) from coming through the pack and to help their own Jammer make it and score points. We are Amarillo's very own Women's Roller Derby League! We have built this league from the ground-up and have been training since November of 2006 in preparation to bring quality Rollerderby entertainment to the good people of Amarillo! Once our operating expenses have been covered, we plan to donate to local charities (and have already been donating to charities such as The American Cancer Society & Goodwill.) So, by supporting Route 66 Rollerderby, you will also be supporting people in need in our area! We are still recruiting Rollergirls and Referees, & even people who just want to help however they can! Please send us a message if you would like to be a part of one of the fastest growing sports in America!
Route 66 Roller Derby would like to thank our awesome fans and sponsors for the best inagural season we could ask for! You helped make us a success!!
Look for Route 66 Roller Derby's second season to start in the Spring of 2009, and we will be back at the Amarillo Civic Center to bring lots of hard hitting derby action!
