The Rowan County Animal Control is an open door, municipal facility
committed to protecting animals from conditions harmful to their well being,
and to protecting the citizens of the community from stray, unvaccinated, and
dangerous animals. We strive to promote a harmonious atmosphere between the
animals and the people of our community.
Along with the stray animals we pick up, we take every domestic animal that
comes to our door; young, old, sick, or injured. Although state and county laws
require animals to be held a minimum of 3 days, we try to shelter some for weeks
while we try to find them new homes. But more keep coming every day, and we
can only house so many at a time. As a result, we must humanely euthanize those
animals for which no homes can be found. We have four Animal Control Officers
who cover the entire 519 square miles of Rowan county.
Adopting a friend
If the animal is already Spayed or Neutered there is NO ADOPTION
FEE! That's right, Free Adoptions to animals that are already altered.
The minimal cost for an adoption at the shelter is $70.00 which
is a down payment towards the spay/neuter fee. We welcome out-of-county and
out-of-state adoptions. Please be sure to check with your veterinarian if they
will accept the voucher. The voucher must be given to the veterinarian at the
time of the procedure and the veterinarian's office must send it in to us. At
that time, we will reimburse the $70.00 to the Veterinarian.
This fee is NON-NEGOTABLE
We welcome rescue groups at the same $70.00 adoption rate.
Your new pet will be vaccinated against Rabies at the time of
adoption.
We see over 100 animals per week in our facility, there is no
way for us to post each one of them. We do our best to let the public know what
is available. There are numerous choices that could be available and not posted.
Your perfect companion could be waiting for you!
If you see an animal that you want to adopt, please come to
the shelter.
We DO NOT hold animals. All animals
for adoption are on a first come first serve basis. No exceptions.
Finding a Lost Pet
Your best bet to find your lost pet is to come to the shelter.
You are welcome to bring a picture and we will post it on our board. We also
have lost animal cards that you can fill out with all of your info and the pet's
info. We will do what we can to help you but you know your pet better than anyone
and we can't stress enough how important it is to come to the shelter and look
for yourself. Remember to check our hours before you come so we don't miss you.
