”Roxi Copland of Des Moines has a deep, soulful voice to complement the slew of talented musicians she works with. Decidedly jazz/pop, Roxi’s music is the modern equivalent to the sensual, smoky bar soloist with a Coltrane air.” -’Top Ten Iowa Bands’ - Max Plenke
Performing throughout the US, Roxi entertains with an engaging combination of original songs and innovative pop-infused arrangements of jazz standards. Roxi's unique genre is probably best described in the words of one particularly eloquent reviewer as “a possibly schizophrenic but absolutely brilliant concoction of jazz, pop and soul.” She released her debut EP, ‘Streetwise’, in December of 2008, and has been touring in support of it ever since, most recently with veteran LA singer/songwriter Shannon Curtis.
Roxi has played over 600 shows in the last three years for audiences ranging from 10 to 125,000 people. She can usually be found performing several times a week, either as a solo act or with her full band. In between performances, the singer/songwriter/pianist has been hard at work finishing up the last few tunes for her next album, Lost in Paradox. She'll be going into the studio to begin production this winter. In addition to her own tours, Roxi has opened for a number of prominent national acts, including most recently pop sensation Vanessa Carlton, jazz virtuoso Jason Lindner, and the acapella powerhouse the Manhattan Transfer.
Roxi’s debut EP, ‘Streetwise’ was released on December 12th, 2008. The disk features six original tunes, including fan favorite “In Love with Trouble.” ‘Streetwise’ is available on CD Baby, Itunes, Amazon and a number of other online music vendors. The disc is also featured at a number of local retailers in central Iowa, including the Village Bean, Found Things, Capital City Music, and the Mars Cafe in Des Moines, and the Octagon in Ames.
Roxi is currently writing and composing new songs for her second EP, 'Lost in Paradox'. She plans to be back in the studio this winter.
Roxi recently wrapped up a number of studio sessions playing keys for Max Wellman’s debut album, “Comes Love,” which was released in May of 2009.
Reviews:
“There is a fire inside Roxi Copland. You can see it in her hectic performance schedule and hear it in her dark, sultry voice…”
‘Datebook,’ Des Moines Register, December 2008
“Listen to the mature timbre of her alto vocals, astute lyrics, and sophisticated compositions.”
‘SceneScribe,’ Des Moines Cityview, December 2008
"Roxi Copland has charmed her way through the RawRip Top20 chart with her smooth and sexy timbre. . . an original blend: fun and yet with a certain inner elegance . ."
RawRip Review, April 2007
" . . A breath of fresh air has blown into the jazz scene. It is the voice of Roxi Copland. At only 24, she interprets jazz standards with a maturity well beyond her years. From her 5-foot-4-inch frame springs an alto voice that attacks every phrase with a deliberate force that hearkens to Diana Krall and Diane Reeves . ."
Des Moines Register, July 2007
"Her voice is like a glass of wine at midnight . . "
